From the 1970s until its retirement in 2006, the F-14 Tomcat was a fearsome carrier fighter with its powerful radar and long-range missiles. Originally designed for carrier air defense, in the 1990s it was also tabbed for ground attack work on account of its superior payload capacity and range. At the end of that decade Tomcats became capable of long-range surgical strikes with LANTIRN pod and laser-guided bombs. The F-14D inherited its F110-GE-400 engines from the F-14B, and was given a new digital radar system whose faster processing times and enhanced capability turned the Tomcat into a true multi-role fighter also capable of ground attack and reconnaissance missions. The F-14D was delivered to units from 1992 and was active in Afghanistan and Iraq; it was a vital cog in the Navy machine until it was retired in 2006. From the 1970s through the 1980s, Group 5 races gained immense popularity with thrilling on-track battles between powerful, highly modified vehicles. The Ford Zakspeed Capri Turbo was designed to take on the DRM (German Racing Championship), sporting a low and wide body and powered by a 375hp 1,427cc inline-4 engine. With the body making extensive use of FRP, the car weighed in at a mere 790kg. It debuted in summer 1978 at Hockenheim, and then in October took its maiden victory, winning the sprint race at the Nürburgring. Features This is a 1/24 scale plastic model assembly kit. The Mercedes-AMG GT3 is one of the world's most popular Customer Racing cars. This is a re-release model of the M60A3 tank. Together with the M1 Abrams, the M60A3 formed the core of U.S. tank forces during the 1980s. It featured a cast iron chassis that was inherited from the M48 tanks that first appeared in the 1950s, and was powered by a super-charged air-cooled diesel. The turret, too, was manufactured from cast iron, and was mounted with a 105mm gun with thermal sleeve to provide protection from barrel distortion. Other technologically-advanced additions at the time included a laser based rangefinder and ballistic computer, allowing the M60A3 to pack a fearsome punch. Production began in 1978, and the 3,600 examples produced went on to fulfil a leading military role for in excess of 20 years.  Features Length: 264mm, Width: 104mm. Germany employed a number of half-track vehicles during WWII, among them the prolific Sd.Kfz. 250 series. From transportation duties to communications vehicles, ammo carriers and more, they were truly versatile vehicles. The Sd.Kfz. 250/3 is rather well known for Rommel's having used it as a command car during the fighting in North Africa; he named it the Greif ("griffin"), appropriate for the vehicle which carried him as he seemed to swoop around North Africa trying to thwart Allied intentions. Based on the Porsche 930 Turbo, the Turbo RSR Type 934 was developed to compete in international sports car racing in 1976, and 31 race cars were produced. In the same year, a 934 with the German company Vaillant as the main sponsor and a striking cobalt green livery competed in the DRM (German Racing Championship). Since their establishment in 1955 as a viable motorcycle company, the Yamaha firm of Japan has been developing compact and high powered 2 stroke engines for use in international racing events as well as in Japan. Although they are nowadays also known for their 4 stroke machines in street bike versions, the Yamaha people are still working on the perfection of 2 stroke engines. This type of engine is ideal for the small displacement bikes of 50-125cc engines, but the larger motorcycles have normally been equipped with 4 stoke engines due to the lower noise levels, and no visible exhaust pollution and less vibration, since the early 70's. Two stroke engines have less parts, are easier to keep in tune and require normally less maintenance. The Yamaha 2 stroke sports bike RZ250 succeeded in reducing many undesirable traits by improving the engine design and water cooling it. It also puts out a whopping 35hp and became a best selling sports type motorcycle. Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki were stimulated by these sales to also produce 2 stroke machines. The majority of these bikes were patterned after Grand Prix racers which have been active in world competition. While these smaller racing replicas were gathering popularity, Yamaha unveiled their RD500LC (known as the RZV500R in Japan) at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1983. While previous releases were replicas of G.P. racers in the 250cc class, this new bike has the same displacement and layout as the Grand Prix racers then in competition , and this caused a great sensation throughout the bike world. Designed with an aim towards lightness and compactness and to be utilized with their G.P. engine of YZR fame, the styling and layout were accomplished first. Mounting this 64hp powerhouse in the compact bike caused a few problems; however, all came out right in the end. The layout of the exhaust system in this V4 engine is unique in that the front two cylinder exhaust forward and back two vent to the rear. To equalize back pressure and maintain the same tuning on all four cylinders, the rear two exhaust pipes cross over each other, under the saddle, to maintain the same length on all four pipes. Previous motorcycles had special carburetors set between the V banks, but the RZV avoids this and utilizes normal carburetors for better maintenance.
