$161.95
In 2013, Drax unveiled the UK’s first purpose-built biomass rail freight wagon at the National Railway Museum in York. Developed by designers at Lloyd’s Register Rail and manufactured by WH Davis, it is the largest ever produced and pushes the boundaries of rail engineering.
This award-winning wagon transports sustainable biomass from the Ports of Tyne, Hull, and Immingham to Drax Power Station, near Selby for use in generating low carbon, cost effective, and reliable renewable electricity.
At 18.9m long with top doors stretching 18.2m and bottom doors of 3.7m, the supersize wagon has a capacity of 116 cubic metres allowing a biomass load weighing 71.6 tonnes. Its volume is almost 30 per cent bigger than any freight wagon currently used in the UK.

$ PRICE IN PROGRESS!
Based on the Railway Clearing House standard tank wagon design of 1907, hundreds of these 12-ton wagons were used by private owners to transport liquid products, including fuel oil and kerosene, among other products.
The tanks sat on a wooden frame and were secured using steel bracing straps. They were commonplace through the 1960s, when they started to be replaced by larger capacity tank wagons, though examples could still be found in use into the 1980s.
This OO gauge model tank wagon example is in the distinctive ‘Mobil’ colour scheme.

Hornby R60351 OO RailRoad BR 20T Brake Van
$ PRICE IN PROGRESS!
Brake vans were an essential fixture on freight trains where the continuous brake was not available. Loose-coupled wagons only had hand-operated ‘sprag’ brakes which had to be applied individually, for example, before descending a gradient.
Trains were prone to broken coupling chains, so the brake van was essential for bringing a train to a halt under such circumstances. From 1968, the requirement for a brake van to be coupled to a fitted train (wagons with vacuum brakes) was removed from the rule book. BR adopted the LNER ‘Toad D’ van as the basis for its own standard brake van design.
This OO gauge model van is an example of a BR 20T Brake Van.
