This locomotive entered service as one of Henry Ivatt’s ‘J13’ Class as No. 1247, having been built under contract by Sharp, Stewart in 1899. It became LNER ‘J52’ 4247 at the Grouping in 1923, and later 8846 under the LNER’s 1946 renumbering scheme.  It entered BR service as 68846 and was withdrawn from King’s Cross ‘Top Shed’ in May 1959, at which point it became the first preserved locomotive to be bought directly from BR when it was acquired by Captain W.G. Henry Fowler designed the ‘Patriot’ 4-6-0 for the LMS as an upgrade of the LNWR’s ‘Large Claughton’ Class for express passenger work. Built at both Crewe and Derby Works, 42 and ten respectively, 52 entered service between 1930 and 1934. ‘Holyhead’ was new from Crewe in September 1932, numbered 5983, but this was changed to 5514 in August 1938, as represented by the model.  The locomotive would later be rebuilt with a Stanier taper boiler in 1947, before becoming BR 45514, with withdrawal coming at Derby in May 1961, the first of the rebuilt ‘Patriots’ to be condemned. This Hornby model of LMS ‘Patriot’ Class 4-6-0 No. 5514 ‘Holyhead’ is finished in accurate period detail as it appeared in the late 1930s. This model of BR ‘Patriot’ Class 4-6-0 No. 45540 ‘Sir Robert Turnbull’ is presented in its post-rebuild condition, reflecting its appearance under British Railways ownership. DCC ready with a 21-pin decoder socket, the locomotive is designed with metal sprung buffers and NEM tension lock couplers. This locomotive started out as 5901 when it emerged from Crewe Works in August 1933, but was later renumbered to 5540. It was rebuilt with a Stanier taper boiler in October 1947, which promoted it from power class ‘6P’ to ‘7P’. It became 45540 under BR in May 1948 and survived in service until condemned in April 1963 and was scrapped by July that year.  The locomotive’s name, transferred from withdrawn ‘Large Claughton’ 1161, was in honour of Sir Robert Turnbull, former General Manager of the LNWR, who was knighted in 1913. This OO gauge SECR H Class locomotive model is a faithful representation of Harry Wainwright's H Class. With sprung metal buffers and NEM tension lock couplings, this model is DCC ready with an 8-pin socket ready for upgrading to digital control. Designed by Harry Wainwright, 66 of these locomotives were built for the South Eastern & Chatham Railway at its Ashford Works between 1904 and 1915 for London suburban and semi-fast trains. The BR English Electric DP1 'Deltic' is always a favourite model, and with its new blue livery, this OO gauge diesel engine is sure to be just as popular. This Class 87 No. 87012 ‘The Olympian’ is finished in its distinctive Network SouthEast livery as carried during its final years of mainline service. The locomotive is DCC ready with a 21-pin decoder socket, allowing for digital upgrade. Equipped with sprung metal buffers and NEM tension lock couplings it offers both enhanced detail and reliable performance. History British Rail Engineering at Crewe turned out 36 of these 25kV 5,000hp locomotives between 1973 and 1975. Based on its Class 86 predecessor, the new design set out to achieve a higher-performance machine for front-line express work on the West Coast Main Line, capable of operating continuously at speeds of up to 110mph. Entering service in January 1974, 87012 was named ‘Coeur de Lion’ in May 1978. For its last two years of service it was named ‘The Olympian’ and painted in a version of Network SouthEast livery with branding to promote the London Olympics bid for 2012, but was withdrawn in 2006. It then became one of two locomotives exported to Bulgaria in 2007 for trials which, following successful completion, resulted in all remaining operational members of the fleet following them into freight service there. The Hornby Class 153 No. 153360 is finished in the distinctive Northern Rail livery, representing its appearance during regular service in the north of England. It is currently on-hire to freight operator Loram Rail and painted in its livery, the ‘An Commun Gaidhealach’ name being reinstated in February 2024. Add a modern day locomotive to your model railway layout in the form of the GRBf Class 57. This model locomotive features sprung metal buffers and NEM tension lock couplings, offering a detailed but durable RailRoad model. The Class 57s were a rebuild of Class 47s, retaining the basic bodyshell and fitted with reconditioned EMD engines and similar traction motors to those used on the Class 56s. The initiative came from Freightliner growing increasingly frustrated at the poor reliability of its ageing fleet of Brush-built Class 47s. The work was carried out at Brush Traction in Loughborough between 1998 and 2004, with 33 remanufactured locomotives completed. Freightliner abandoned plans to convert further examples, instead choosing the new Class 66. Operators have since included Virgin Trains, Arriva Trains Wales, First Great Western, Colas Rail, Direct Rail Services, Rail Operations Group and Advenza Freight. 57306 was formerly 47814, and it is still in service with GB Railfreight.
