The gunners, serving guns built in accordance with the Gribeuval system, wear horse artillery uniforms with a characteristic skin cap. The uniforms of the artillery drivers are remarkable, too.

After the loss of Cyrenaica, Italy requested a German intervention, and in February 1941 the first troops of what was to become the famous Deutsche Afrika Korps led by General Erwin Rommel were sent to North Africa. The troops of the Axis in a few months took back Cyrenaica and Tobruk, and advanced into Egypt. Constantly short on supplies, they were defeated by the 8th British Army at El Alamein. The additional pressure caused by the American arrival in Morocco forced the Afrika Korps to gradually retreat in Tunisia during 1943.

The 1st Infantry Division , better known as “the big red one”, represents the prototype of U.S. Infantry troops during World War II. It took part in Operation Torch (November 1942), the landing in Sicily, the landing in Normandy (June 6th, 1944), the battle of the Ardennes and the final advance into German territory in 1945. The models in this kit are represented with the typical equipment of American infantry: the M1 Garand rifle, the B.A.R. automatic rifle, the M3 “Grease Gun” submachinegun and the famous Bazooka.

The JU-87 dive bomber is certainly one of the most famous airplanes of World War II. This characteristic “inverted gullwing” aircraft became famous at the early stages of the war, when Germany had virtual air superiority. Later on the planes’s limits became obvious. The Stukas were then used as troop support aircraft on the Eastern front, where its robust fuselage proved to be quite adequate. During the final war period the plane was used as a night bomber where the flying qualities of its crews were important in a situation of technical and numeral inferiority. The U.S. Navys first super-fighter, the F-14, was developed partially on the basis of experience gained with the F-111, a multi-role plane designed by General Dynamics, the Navy version of which, the F111B, was built by Grumman. The F-14A first flew on 21st December 1970, and production-line models started reaching squadrons in 1973. Squadrons VF-1 and VF-2 accompanied the last voyage of the aircraft carrier Enterprise in Vietnam, yet never saw combat. The Tomcat would not see action until 1981, when it shot down two Libyan Su-22s during an encounter over the Gulf of Sirte. Since then the F-14 has been updated several times and has taken parts in various conflicts in the Middle East (Iran-Iraq war, 1st and 2nd Gulf War), as well as in operations over the former Yugoslavia and minor skirmishes over the Mediterranean. In the Cold War era the dream of every strategist was to own a bomber with the load capacity and autonomy of the B-52 able to fly faster than the B-58 and so the B-70 programme came into being. After years on the drawing board, and cutthroat competition between Boeing and North American Aviation, the latter’s design won the heated competition in December 1957, with an order for the first 30 aircraft to be in service by 1965. In 1959, however, it became clear that the still untested B-70 would not survive the new aerial combat scene technology and the programme was cut back to a minimum. Two prototypes were finally constructed, the first of which took to the air in September 1964, and the XB-70 Valkyries showed themselves able to fly at speeds exceeding Mach 3. The European truck manufacturers carry only very few conventional (long-hood) trucks in their roster because of legal length limitations for tractor-trailer units. The new conventional, built by Scania, is therefore mainly used for extra-heavy tasks and construction work. Due to the fact that the engine is mounted in front ot the driver's cabin, the T-143 features a spacious driving compartment and has a lower noise level than the «R» type. Engine and cockpit are identical to the Streamline version. In Australia this version is used succesfully for the so called Road Trains, which carry up to three trailers with an overall length of 43 m. The Panzerkampfwagen V “Panther” is widely recognised as one of the best tanks that was produced during World War 2. It was deployed as a direct response to the Soviet T-34 and KV-1 tanks on the Eastern Front, which were superior to  both the Panzer III and Panzer IV in terms of performance and armaments. Powered by a 700 horsepower V-12 Mayback engine, it was armed with the 75 mm KwK 42 high speed gun which was a very effective anti-tank weapon.  The Panther was designed with optimal armor protection, including inclined front armor. Its overall mobility, speed and armaments made the Panther one of the leading tanks of the period, and ensured its deployment on all of the main operational fronts, from the East through Italy and France. In 1980, during the Geneva Motor Show, the German car manufacturer from Ingolstadt presented its new two-door coupé, the Audi Quattro. Produced throughout the 1980s, its Italian name highlights its main feature: four-wheel drive. At the time, four-wheel drive on a vehicle aimed at generating high sales figures was indeed an important innovation. The “Quattro” guaranteed good performance combined with excellent road holding on any type of surface. The longitudinal front engine was capable of delivering appreciable performance. A competition version was also created, which debuted in the World Rally Championship in 1981, achieving good results. The success of the “Quattro” continues to this day, so much so that the Italian name has become a true “brand” that identifies the entire latest range of Audi’s four-wheel-drive cars. Following its operational successes during WW1, the Italian “Regia Marina” continued with further post- war developments into various underwater and surface assault vehicles. The Motoscafo da Turismo Modificato (M.T.M.) for example, was designed to ensure a covert and rapid approach to targets with a low risk of detection from enemy forces. Closing in on the target, the pilot then adjusted the rudder to maintain direction and propelled the fast small boat on a collision course to the target. The pilot, positioned at the stern, jumped from the craft at a safe distance before the collision. The high explosive charge positioned in the bow of the Barchino detonated upon impact against the target. The most successful deployment of the ‘Barchino’ by the Italian Regio Marina, was the assault led by Luigi Faggioni on the Royal Navy heavy cruiser HMS York at Suda Bay, Crete in 1941. The Scania R143 M Streamline was an iconic benchmark in the production lines of the famous Scandinavian manufacturer, which achieved considerable commercial success in various European and non-European markets between the end of the 1980s and the mid-1990s. The Scania R143M was assembled at the Södertälje production site in Sweden and was one of the most successful models of the "series 3", first introduced by Scania in 1987 and following on from the innovative "series 2" of the 1980s. Powerful and reliable thanks to its 500 horsepower V-8 engine, it was designed with the most advanced technologies of the time. Great attention was paid to its design to reduce aerodynamic resistance and minimize fuel consumption, an important factor for success in using heavy transport over long distances. The single-engine jet fighter F-86 Sabre was developed by the American aircraft company North American Aviation in the late 1940s and became a key aircraft in terms of post-war military aviation. The F-86 adopted a swept-wing design, incorporated a large front air intake and used the General-Electric J47 jet engine. The fighter’s flying performance was impressive for the time and very different from the wartime propeller driven aircraft. The Sabre was armed with six M3 12.7 mm Browning machine guns installed in the nose. It was widely used by the U.S.A.F. and played a key role during the Korean War where it could effectively counter the Soviet fighter Mikoyan-Gurevich Mig-15, in the first jet dogfights in history. The F-86 proved to be an extremely effective aircraft and many American pilots earned the designation of “ace” during Korean war combat missions. During the war, the need to produce self-propelled anti-aircraft guns capable of protecting troops against low-flying air attacks became marked. To this end, the hull of the Panzer IV medium tank, the Flakpanzer IV Wirbelwind, was used as a platform to add on a 20 mm Flak 38 quadruple gun system. By the end of 1944 the Wirbelwind was joined by the more powerful Ostwind, which was mounted with a 37 mm Flak 43 anti-aircraft gun. Providing a greater range of fire, the anti-aircraft armament protected by a thick and characteristic shield mounted on an "open-roof" hexagonal turret, the Ostwind could also be effectively deployed against ground targets in close support of troops on the battlefield. The few “Ostwind” that were produced were delivered to the anti-aircraft units of the Panzer Division, and proved very effective on operations. The Fiat 131 Abarth was built on the frame of the two-door Fiat sedan. The development made by Abarth considered several modifications and improvements starting from the reduction of the body weight using lighter materials. Then some new fenders, to permit the adoption of larger wheels, were installed and new air-intakes on the hood and on the sides to optimize the cooling of the mechanics were designed. The engine was a 4-cylinder longitudinal engine characterised by the use light alloy head and 4 valves per cylinder. The Fiat 131 Abarth was built from 1976 and it was used in the World Rally Championship where achieved important results as three manufacturers’ championship, one pilots’ championship and one FIA trophy. The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was one of the best aircraft produced during World War II. Manufactured in more than 20,000 units starting from 1941, it was, alongside the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the most renowned fighter aircraft of the Luftwaffe. In its early versions, such as the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-8, the fighter was equipped with a BMW 801 D-2 double-row radial engine with 14 cylinders, delivering 1,700 horsepower, enabling it to reach a top speed of 653 km/h. Over time, designers capitalized on the successful aerodynamic structure of the aircraft, achieving what can be considered its ultimate evolution. The adoption of the powerful liquid-cooled Junkers Jumo 213 12-cylinder engine necessitated a revision of the aircraft's design, resulting in an elongated nose. The D version was aptly nicknamed by Luftwaffe pilots as "Langnasen-Dora" (Long-nose Dora), but once in flight, they immediately appreciated its characteristics and capabilities. The FW-190D was indeed capable of competing on equal terms with the most modern Allied fighters, such as the renowned P-51D Mustang. The introduction of the Macchi MC 202 Folgore was a significant development for the fighter squadrons of the Italian Regia Aeronautica. Stylishly designed from an aerodynamical perspective, it was fitted with the powerful German DB 601 engine produced under license by the Italian aeronautical industry. The engine and overall aeronautical performance of the aircraft provided the Regia Aeronautica with a fighter capable of actively engaging Allied fighters. The flight performance compared to the previous generation of fighters equipped with radial engines, such as the Fiat G-50 and the Macchi Mc-200, was in fact much better. Manoeuvrable and fast (it was able to reach 600 km h), it was armed, in the early versions, with two 12.7 mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns installed in the nose. Only in later versions were the armaments improved with additional machine-guns installed in the wings. The Lancia Stratos HF is, without any doubts, a reference icon of Italian automotive production during the ‘70s. The Italian sport car, produced for a short period of time, has become famous for its innovative design, its technical solutions and, above all, for the success achieved in rally competitions. Lancia Stratos won, for the 1974, 1975 and 1976 the World Rally Championship and a lot of Italian and European titles. The Corsair is one of the best known airplanes of World War Il which fought against the entire array of aircraft used by the Japanese Forces in the Pacific theatre. After the war the Corsairs were set aside, together with other propeller-driven planes, to expect demolition awaiting replacement by jet aircraft. In 1950, at the outbreak of the Korean conflict, more than one hundred units were re-activated to combat the onslaught of the North Korean Forces. The Corsair still proved a viable airplane, robust and reliable, superior to the first, rather delicate jets which were to end the Corsair's life span.
