The Suzuki RG 500 is considered to be an icon of two-wheel racing motorcycles of the 1970s. It was specifically developed by the Japanese manufacturer Suzuki for the racing world, and built around the reliable and powerful 4-cylinder 500cc 2-stroke engine which provided up to 90 HP. With this bike Suzuki participated in the world championships in the 500 class, achieving an incredible series of consecutive victories that led to it retaining the "constructors" title for several years. The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was certainly one of the foremost aircraft of WW2 in terms of aerodynamic structure and design. It was a revolutionary heavy fighter with a twin-boom fuselage where the two engines were installed. The pilot was accommodated in a leading edge cockpit at the centre of the aircraft. The P-38 could reach a top speed of over 660 km/h thanks to its two 12 cylinders liquid cooled V-1710 Allison engines, each capable of 1,425hp. It was armed with four Browning 12.7 mm machine guns and one Hispano M2 cannon which ensured highly effective firepower. The P38 was not particularly manoeuvrable compared to other single-engine fighters of the period, but it was very robust and stable. It’s huge versatility made it a key aircraft both on operations in the Pacific theatre and on escort missions for long-range bombers over Europe. The P-38 with its characteristic shape and its ‘fear effect’ was nicknamed ‘the fork-tailed devil’ by enemy pilots. The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is undoubtedly one of the best-known fighters of the Second World War and is considered an iconic aircraft of the German Luftwaffe. During the conflict the engines and armaments were regularly upgraded to be kept in line with the emerging, more modern enemy fighters. The Bf 109 K-4 “Kurfürst”, introduced at the end of 1944 and substantially derived from the G model, was the last version produced of this famous German fighter. The American supersonic twin-engine Grumman F-14 Tomcat was the icon of the U.S. Navy fighter squadrons during the ‘80s and ‘90s. it was characterized by the adoption of the variable-sweep wing, the twin-tail and the tandem two-seat cabin. The JSF Joint Strike Fighter program was a developmental project to create a new 5th generation all-weather multirole combat aircraft to replace the existing American and NATO strike-fighter force. The Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet is a modern twin-engine, carrier-capable, single-seat fighter directly derived from the original design of the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet. Larger and heavier than its predecessor, it is characterized by significantly improved flight and combat performance. The twin-engine Douglas DC-3 was definitely one of the most famous transport aircraft of aviation history thanks to its reliability, flexibility and service life. During the Second World War it was developed a version dedicated to military duties: the Douglas C-47 Skytrain. Produced in large numbers by American production plants, was used extensively by the Allies on all fronts. In particular, the C-47s received by British Royal Air Force and Commonwealth Air Forces took the name “Dakota” and they were used for logistic, tactical transports, launch of paratroopers and medical evacuation. Thanks to its two Pratt & Whitney 1,200 HP engines the “Dakota” was able to reach a top speed of 360 Km/h. It had a pay-load of 2,500 Kg or a capacity of 28 troops. The Kfir is an all-weather multirole combat aircraft produced by the Israel Aircraft Industries. It was mainly based on the French Dassault Mirage III / 5 airframe, but it adopted several improvements as the Israeli-built version of the powerful and reliable General Electric J79 turbojet engine or a complete new set of avionic equipment. Kfir programme has been originated to develop a more effective version of the IAI Nesher. The Kfir entered in service in 1975 and was assigned to fighter squadrons. During the time, some updated versions came out as the Kfir C7 charcterised by a powerful engine, better avionics and inflight refuelling capability. However, with the introduction of the new F-15, the reliable and robust Kfir changed its main role and it was used to perform strike missions. The LTV A-7 Corsair II was designed and implemented in the first half of the 1960s to satisfy the specific United States Navy request to have a new carrier-capable light attack aircraft able to replace the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk and the piston-powered Douglas A-1 Skyraider. It was directly developed by the fighter Vought F-8 Crusade airframe. The A-7 was characterised by the large frontal air intake under tha cabin, by the 35° foldable swept wing to optimize the use and the storage on the aircraft carriers flight decks and by the adoption of a modern Head-up-Display to enhance the operational effectiveness. Thanks to its underwing hardpoints the A-7 was able to carry an impressive offensive load based on conventional bombs, guided bombs as the Paveway and air-to-surface missiles. Developed by the American aircraft company McDonnell Douglas the F-4 Phantom II is a tandem two-seat, all-weather, supersonic fighter-bomber. It entered service during the sixties and it is one of the most famous airplanes of the military aviation history. The AH-64 Apache can be considered the most famous attack helicopter in history. It was designed to operate on the front line and to perform anti-tank, anti-helicopter, assault and close support missions in “all weather” conditions and in any operating environments. The innovative Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey project was initiated during the 1980s, but only emerged into production and was deployed to various arms of the US armed forces, after enduring a long and complex developmental process which lasted for over twenty years. The Osprey is a tilt rotor, equipped with two tilting engines which have large three-blade propellers attached that make it able to land and take-off vertically like a helicopter, and also possessing flight and transfer performance similar to that of a conventional propeller plane. Thanks to its two powerful 6,150 HP Rolls-Royce T406-AD-400 engines it can exceed 500 km / h in horizontal flight. The United States Marine Corps is the principal user of the aircraft, exploiting its tactical versatility and the transport capability of the V-22 in particular, for operational support during troop landings.
