The Grumman F6F Hellcat is an American carrier-based fighter aircraft of World War II. Designed to replace the earlier F4F Wildcat and to counter the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero, it was the United States Navy's dominant fighter in the second half of the Pacific War. In gaining that role, it prevailed over its faster competitor, the Vought F4U Corsair, which initially had problems with visibility and carrier landings. M-47 Patton medium tank was developed and deployed to U.S. armored units in the early 1950s. Compared to its predecessors, such as the M-46, it exhibited significantly improved performance, featuring enhanced protection and increased firepower, provided by the turret-mounted 90mm M3 gun. The tank had a combat weight of approximately 46 tons and was powered by a high-performance Continental 12-cylinder V-type air-cooled engine delivering 810 hp, enabling a top speed of 45 km/h. Beyond the United States, the M-47 was widely used by various NATO armies throughout the Cold War. It proved to be a reliable and robust platform, remaining in service with several European armored units until the 1980s. Additionally, it saw combat in multiple operational theaters, ranging from the Middle East to the Indo-Pakistani conflict. During the revolutionary wars (1792-1799) and - especially - in the Napoleonic period (1799-1815), France probably had the most efficient war machine on the Old Continent, which almost led to its lasting hegemony over Europe. It will be a truism to say that the key element of this machine was the French army. In the same army, of course, line infantry played a very important role. Shortly after the outbreak of the Revolution, the units formed during the Ancien Regime period were separated from the volunteer units, but already in 1793 an amalgam decree was issued, which created half-brigades of line infantry consisting of the "old" line infantry battalion and two volunteer battalions. However, in 1803 Napoleon restored the regimental system. The French Line Infantry Regiment from 1803 consisted of 3 battalions, and each battalion was divided into 9 infantry companies. Another reorganization took place in 1808, when the two regiments were combined into brigades. On the other hand, the number of battalions in the regiment increased to four, one of which was in-house and did not move into the field. In addition, line battalions already had 6, not 9 companies. From 1808, the French line infantry regiment had as many as 3,970 people. In 1812, just before the campaign in Russia, the French line infantry numbered 130 regiments. The basic armament of the French infantryman was a model 1777 or AN IX rifle with a length of 1.52 meters and a caliber of 15.5 to 17.5 mm. There was also a bayonet. It is worth adding, however, that the French infantry also used captured weapons on a large scale - including Russian or British rifles. SBD Dauntless was the standard bomber of the US navy in the first years of the Second World War. Almost 6,000 of them were constructed in six main versions, and they operated in the Pacific theatre. Of the many battles in which they took part, the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway come to mind. Although the technique with which this airplane was to be used, dive bombing, was soon obsolete, the SBDs remained in service. ?The last great operation in which they were employed on a large scale was the Battle of the Philippine Sea. Immediately after the Second World War, the American company Republic, began working on a new turbo-jet fighter-bomber.  F.84 Thunderjet was developed on a simple but effective design   with a large frontal air intake, straight wings and a robust tricycle landing gear. Thanks to the General Electric / Allison J35 turbo-jet engine, F-84 Thunderjet was able to reach 1,000 Km / h. It was armed with six 12.7 mm machine guns  and it could carry an offensive load of nearly 900 kg. The F-84G, entered production in 1951, is one of the latest versions of the Republic fighter-bomber. In addition to the USAF it was used by many NATO countries, including several fighter-bomber squadrons of Italian Aeronautica Militare,  in accordance with the Mutual Defense Assistance Act. The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was one of the best airplanes designed during World War II. With over 20,000 units produced from 1941, together with the Messerschmitt Bf 109, it was the Luftwaffe’s most famous fighter. The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-8 was equipped with a BMW 801 D-2 two star radial engine, with 14 1,700 Hp cylinders, which allowed it to reach a maximum speed of 653 Km/h. It was heavily armed with 2 MG 131 machine guns and 4 MG 151 20 mm cannons. Production of the A-8 version began in the first months of 1944, characterised with an injection system able to increase engine power, for brief periods, to over 1,900 Hp. From 1944 until May 1945 in all the Focke-Wulf factories, more than 6,500 190 A-8 models were constructed, to face the ever more frequent allied air raids. The model 42 Desert Vehicle was developed for the Italian Army based on the chassis and mechanics of the AB 41 armoured car. Over the course of the operations on the African front, the need arose for a reconnaissance vehicle specially adapted to the desert conditions, where driving on sand required particular features that were not present on the currently available vehicles. This mobile anti aircraft weapon was made for the German army in 1943 to provide battlefield protection for their forces subject to sustained attack by enemy planes. The vehicle was developed, based on the 38T tank chassis, of Czechoslovakian origin already widely employed as the basis for reconnaissance and mobile artillery units. The Gepard carried a 2cm cannon, FLAK 38 and although well armed did not alone deliver the amount of fire needed to protect a location under attack and so it was necessary to deploy them in groups for effective defence. Produced by the renowned French manufacturer Renault, the Magnum marked a clear break from tradition in the heavy commercial vehicle market. The new single-seat biplane fighter retained the fixed landing gear and open cockpit of its predecessor but introduced several innovations, such as an entirely aluminum and steel structure covered with metal and fabric. Its air-cooled radial engine, the Fiat A.74, allowed the C.R. 42 to reach a top speed of 400 km/h. The twin-engine air superiority fighter Sukhoi Su-27K "Sea Flanker," later renamed Su-33, is the carrier-based variant of the renowned Sukhoi Su-27. This naval version, while retaining the Su-27's exceptional operational performance and striking aerodynamic design, was developed and engineered to operate from the Russian Navy's aircraft carriers. To fulfill this role, the aircraft underwent structural modifications to strengthen its airframe and landing gear, making it suitable for naval operations, including the addition of an arrestor hook. The armored cars of the Schwerer Panzerspähwagen Sd.Kfz. 234 series were produced by the German war industry during the final phase of the Second World War. They were distinguished by their high manufacturing quality, combining mobility, operational flexibility, and offensive capability. The design represented an excellent balance of all-terrain speed, protection, and firepower, effectively incorporating the operational experience gained by the Wehrmacht during the early years of the conflict. On roads, the vehicle could reach a top speed of 85 km/h. Among the various versions produced, the Sd.Kfz. 234/1 often served as a command vehicle. Also deployed in forward reconnaissance missions, it was equipped with a 20 mm KwK 30 cannon mounted in an open-topped turret, capable of providing infantry support fire against lightly armored targets. The North American P-51 Mustang is undoubtedly one of the most iconic aircraft in military aviation history and is widely regarded as the best piston-engine fighter of World War II. The P-51 was developed in a remarkably short time and was built around the Packard V-12 engine, capable of delivering over 1,600 horsepower, allowing the Mustang to exceed 700 km/h. The P-51D, the most widely produced variant, was armed with six 12.7 mm Browning machine guns mounted in the wings. The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb was a pivotal variant of the iconic British fighter aircraft during World War II. Introduced in 1941, it featured a strengthened wing structure capable of housing two 20mm Hispano Mk II cannons and four .303 Browning machine guns, enhancing its firepower. Powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin 45 engine, the Mk.Vb achieved a maximum speed of approximately 360 mph (580 km/h) and had a service ceiling of around 34,000 feet (10,400 meters). This model played a crucial role in the Battle of Britain and subsequent campaigns, serving with both the Royal Air Force and Allied air forces.
