The opening round of the 500cc class 1999 World Road Race Championships was set ablaze in the heat of the Malaysian GP. Although it was Team Honda that was said to have the advantage in the opening race of the season, they would be denied victory by young rider, Kenny Roberts, Jr. and the rest of the Suzuki team. New to the Suzuki team, Roberts, Jr. secured a third place finish in the qualifying round before burning rubber to a victory which surprised everyone, especially Team Honda. Proving his triumph was no fluke, Roberts, Jr. went on to win the second round too, this time on the rain soaked course of the Japan GP. On his way to the checkered flag in Japan, Roberts, Jr. was also successful in beating out five year champion Honda NSR rider, Michael Doohan. The 1999 version of the RGV-Gamma is known as the XR89. Its development centered on creating greater overall balance to unlock its maneuverability and cornering speed. The V-type 4-cylinder engine of XR89 model is cradled by a lightweight, aluminum twin-tube frame. The potential of the RGV-Gamma was more than proved by Roberts, Jr., who mounted the victory podium eight times in 1999, securing a very respectable overall season ranking of second place.

Tamiya 16025 1/6 Suzuki GSX...
$130.95
This is a 1/6 scale plastic model assembly kit of the ground-breaking GSX1100S.
One of the most famous motorcycle shows in the world, is held every two years in Cologne West Germany, and the 1980 show is sure to stand out as one of the most unforgettable. One reason was that Honda released their CX500 turbo for the first time, and the second is that Suzuki's GSX1100S "Katana" (Japanese for sword) was unveiled. The Honda CX500 attracted attention for its advanced engine techniques and the Katana for its advanced and aggressive body styling, which broke from common traditional motorcycle styling. Although the Katana GSX1100S styling impressed the many thousands of viewers, almost everybody thought that it was just for show and the production model would be quite different. During the summer of 1981, Suzuki released the production Katana with almost exactly the same body styling seen at the Cologne show, with subtle improvements in the engine and running gear.
The body styling is from the genius of Mr. Hans A. Muth of West Germany, who spent much time ensuring driver comfort in his design, and which proved out in many wind tunnel tests. The entire styling was derived from research on the best drivers position, and the rearward placed backsteps and unique tank styling were not done just for the pleasing jet age appearance. Large capacity fuel tank and small fairing were blended together for the best airflow around the rider and the bike. Although the bike is most noticeable for its styling, every part in it is quality. Engine is an air-cooled, parallel 4 of 1075cc, using 16 valves. With the unique Suzuki TSCC (Twin Swirl Combustion Chamber) in the engine, it puts out 111 hp. This tremendous power transmits into a road speed of 230 k/h and its unique body styling deeps it stable even at these high speeds. Suzuki is shipping a 1000cc Katana GSX1000S tot he American market, and also a 750cc version to the European market as well. Requests from Japanese enthusiasts prompted Suzuki to also market a 750cc Katana GSX750S to their market.

Tamiya 14135 1/12 Yamaha XV1600 Road Star Custom Motorcycle Plastic Model Kit
Go Cruising!
Yamaha's XV1600 Road Star first went on sale in 1999 and proved a huge hit with what was at the time the biggest production bike engine at a whopping 1,600cc. In conjunction with a 20kg crank weight and thanks to its rigid mount that powerplant treated riders to a unique thrum. The front of the XV1600 Road Star employed a telescopic fork and the rear a link type setup that hid its damper inside the frame for a rigid-esque look. Indeed, a large part of the bike's allure was in its looks, and the relative ease with which its owner could add after-market parts to truly customize their ride. From side bags to an extended windshield, there was plenty on offer for those looking to make their Road Star stand out from the crowd.

Tamiya 14084 1/12 Kawasaki ...
$38.95
Kawasaki's legacy of cutting-edge sportbikes has inspired motorcycle fans for generations. Recently, the call for 300km/h plus super sports bikes has motivated several manufactures to bring out powerful contenders. Kawasaki answered the call at the 1999 Paris Motorcycle Show, with the impressive debut of their all-new Ninja ZX-12R. This Ninja was reportedly created in the image of a fighter plane, which comes as no surprise considering that its slippery aerodynamics involved the cooperation of the Aerospace Division of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. In fact, the ZX-12R spent more time in the wind tunnel during its development phase than any motorcycle in Kawasaki's history. The results are evident: small winglets on the sides of the fairing separate airflow around the bike; small wind deflectors on the lower forks deflect turbulent air from the engine; a long lip on the edge of the fairing further smoothens out airflow. Also, projecting just ahead of the front fairing, a large scoop takes advantage of higher air pressure, heightening intake efficiency. A monocoque frame backbone creates an airbox that allows air to pass through the inside of the bike for cooling in addition to ensuring overall rigidity. The powerplant of the Ninja ZX-12R is a fuel injected 4-cylinder 1,199cc engine that pumps out an abundant 178hp. Its four-into-two-into-one exhaust system features a titanium muffler paired with a catalyzer, which helps eliminate unburned hydrocarbons for cleaner emissions. Kawasaki brilliantly raised the superbike standard in performance, power and aerodynamics with their series flagship, the Ninja ZX-12R.
Fairing Recreated with Semi-transparent Parts
As a special feature for this model, semi-transparent green parts have been used for the fairing, offering a fascinating look at the aluminum monocoque frame and detailed engine, even after completion of the model. This is a great chance to see the inner workings of Kawasaki's latest masterpiece! UnpaintedAlso, the brake lights come as semi-transparent red parts and the turning signals come as semi-transparent orange parts. These colors perfectly match those of the full-size bike. Finally, metal stickers have been used for the rear-view mirrors and front forks, providing a high-quality appearance even without painting!

Africa Twin: Like No Other
During the late 1980s, Honda's NXR750 ruled the roost in the motorcycle section of the grueling Dakar Rally. Eager to share their success with the public, in 1988 Honda released a replica production model of the bike, named the XRV650. It was the first model given the now-legendary Africa Twin name, and its popularity across the world helped the expansion of the adventure-touring bike genre. While the Africa Twin name was to step back from the limelight for a period as sales halted early in the 2000s, it was never forgotten by afficionados of the genre, and when the it name was revived in 2015 in the form of the CRF1000L, it was cause for celebration. A semi-double cradle frame houses its 998cc, 92hp liquid-cooled 4-stroke parallel twin engine (Japan spec.), with a rugged off-road look provided by the capacious 18-liter fuel tank (Japan spec.) and twin headlights, plus 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels. A 6-speed Dual Clutch Transmission model is included in the varied model range. Technology such as a 'G' switch to aid clutch control, Honda Selectable Torque Control system and more are at the rider's disposal. The CRF1000L Africa Twin is a versatile motorcycle ready to take its rider anywhere, be that in an urban environment or the more rugged challenges presented by the great outdoors.
This large-scale motorcycle series model depicts the CRF1000L Africa Twin, Honda's modern adventure touring motorcycle inspired by their legendary 4-time Paris-Dakar champion off-road bike. The CRF1000L was released in 2015 and boasts a 998cc parallel-twin engine with a reported 92hp, plus an array of technology such as dual clutch transmission, selectable torque control for slippery surfaces, and ABS brakes. This assembly kit captures the bikes most minute detail in every way. It is sure to wow the most discerning model enthusiast at this very large scale!

Ushering in the Future
Introduced to the world at the Milan Motor Show in 2011, the 1199 Panigale was developed around a monocoque rather than Ducati's traditional trellis-frame. It makes liberal use of famed Italian manufacturer Ducati's race experience and extracts 195hp out of a 1198cc liquid-cooled L-Twin engine. In an inventive twist, the engine itself is part of the bike's frame, and connected directly to the airbox/monocoque, swing arm and seat rail. The result is a lightweight and extremely durable vehicle. A wealth of electronic components helps to control engine output, suspension characteristics and more. The bike's sleek design has won it plaudits and awards from around the world.
