The HH-53C Jolly Green was developed by Sikorsky as a variant of the heavy helicopter CH-53 Sea Stallion. It entered service with the U.S. Air Force in the late 1960s. It was designed to carry out CSAR “Search and Rescue” missions in combat zones with high operational effectiveness. Compared to the previous version, it was equipped with an aerial refueling probe, additional fuel tanks, reinforced armor, and the option to mount extra defensive armament. Particular attention was given to improving the radio systems, which had to coordinate operational activities with other supporting aircraft—such as tankers or attack and support helicopters—needed to safely locate downed or missing pilots. Based on the design of the previous single-seat radial engine fighter Curtiss P-36, the Curtiss P-40 has become one of the most famous and used aircraft of the Second World War. Between 1941 and 1944 he also played a key role in many operational theaters from North Africa to Italy, from China to the South Pacific. Characterized by a very robust and reliable aerodynamic structure, the Curtiss P-40 was equipped with an Allison V-12 engine, capable of delivering more than 1,150 HP. Thanks to it, the Curtiss P-40 was able to reach the speed of 580 Km / h. It served as air superiority fighter and fighter bomber. One of the most successful version was the P-40E. Used by U.S. fighter squadrons and, as Kittyhawk , by Commonwealth Air Forces, the P-40E was heavily armed with six 12.7 mm. M2 Browning machine guns installed in the wings. Furthermore, thanks to its under wings hardpoints, able to carry nearly 900 Kg. of bombs, it was also able to satisfy close air support duties. The Messerschmitt Bf 109 monoplane fighter is, without a doubt, one of the most famous fighter aircraft of the Second World War and can be considered one of the symbols of the Luftwaffe. Throughout the conflict, it was regularly upgraded in terms of engines and armament in an effort to remain competitive against more modern aircraft with superior flight performance. Together with the Focke-Wulf Fw 190, it formed the backbone of the Luftwaffe’s fighter units. The most renowned German aces flew the Bf 109, achieving a significant number of aerial victories. The BF-109 G represents the logical evolution of the earlier F version of the well-known German fighter plane, which dominated the skies during the early stages of World War II. The aircraft was equipped with a more powerful engine in order to increase speed and flying altitude. Some planes were also equipped with increased fire power to combat big Allied bombers. By the end of 1943 the BF-109 G was the backbone of the Luftwaffe and saw action on all theaters, where it was successful in matching Allied air power until the very end of the conflict. The Lightning was the only British designed and built fighter capable of speeds in excess of Mach 2 to serve with the Royal Air Force. There is no doubt that the Lightning will go down in the history books as another classic British fighter. The Lightning was specifically designed as a point defence interceptor - essentially a guided missile-armed, air superiority fighter optimised to defend mainland Britain against bomber attacks. At the end of the 1960s, the Spanish air force begun to look for a type to replace the then widely used transport aircraft, of which the longest-serving were the Ju-52s built in the 1930s. The military issued requirements calling for a new transport and multi-purpose type and to fit these requirements, the CASA company brought forward their concept of a twin-engined, turbo-prop powered high-wing plane with fixed undercarriage and with STOL capabilities. The project known as the CASA C.212 Aviocar was accepted and a mass production was launched both in Spain and in Indonesia, there under a licence. First batches had all a short forward fuselage and were powered by various types of engines, later type designated C.212-300 sported longer fuselage, wings with winglets, more powerful engines, the TPE331-10R-513C and different propellers. 1998 saw the intoduction of the C.212-400 with TPE331-12JR-701C engines, upgraded avionics and higher payload. It is no overstatement to say that the C.212s fly all over the world and the list of the operators might seem to be almost endless. The C.212 keep flying with the militaries of the USA (C-41), Mexico, Central and South America (Panama, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and Argentina), in Europe, they were flown or still are in Sweden, Spain, Portugal, France, Malta, in Africa they can be found from the very Norht to the southern-most tip, flying for instance with Tchad, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe among others. Down under in Australia the C.212s are used in the training of the local Red Barrets and also with the Australian Antarctic Division of the Department of the Environment which operate them in Antarctica. The 1/48 T-2 Buckeye model is back now as is also its larger 1/32 cousin. And both releases share the same colour schemes depicting so called anniversary markings, one scheme is for a US Navy option while the other is more exotic indeed, reminding us that the Buckeyes also flew with the Hellenic Air Force. And both these schemes are quite eye-catching. Unlike the original releases with vacuum formed canopies, the models now sports much more modeller-friendly injected clear parts. The light and cheap J-3 Cub aeroplanes were behind the development of the civil aviation in the USA in the late 1930s. With the end of the world crisis the interest in aviation increased and the J-3 was an ideal type for the basic training and tourist flying. With WW2 coming, the J-3 came into the sights of the military and the USAAF decided to test the type in the artillery spotting and short range recon roles. Needless to say the J-3 succeeded and the production for the military commenced under the designation L-4 Grasshopper. The model kit comes on two grey styrene sprues and one with the clear parts. The decal sheet offers markings for three airframes. The yellow one portrays a pre-war machine and is accompanied by two military machines. The first of these was an ex-civilian airplane wearing olive drab coat over the still partially visible yellow overall. The other military-flown machine is in the standard olive drab and neutral grey colours. Delta 1D/E US Transport plane 1/72 In 1932 Jack K.Northrop, a famous american aircraft designer, followed his earlier and successful cargo and mail types the Alfa and Gamma and designed a new one, named the Delta. It was a all-metal, single engined low-wing monoplane with fixed undercarriage covered in spats. The type was intended to be used on short domestic routes and was built in several versions, differing by their powerplant and also the shape of the pilot’s cockpit canopy. First versions known as the Delta 1A, 1B and 1C featured narrow canopy housing only one pilot. Following versions, the 1D and 1E already had a wider cockpit enabling a crew of two to sit there and they also had a much massive dorsal section of the fuselage. Unfortunatelly, one of the first Delta 1A machines crashed in Mexicowhile being delivered to the customer. This accident was also one of the reasons for the US government to ban the usage of single engined types for regular passenger transport. Aircraft already produced were bought by private subjects or used by companies for business trip purposes. One of the Delta 1Ds, with construction number 74, was used by the US Coast Guard and later it was handed over to the US Corps of Engineers and flown in Ethiopia (Africa) during the Second World War. Delta 1D c/n42 first saw service with Ellsworth’s Antarctica Flight, then was bought by the Australian govenrment and following the outbreak of WW2 it was transferred to the RAAF. Some other Deltas were lucky to see war service even earlier as three of them were acquired by the Spanish government, though two of them fell into the hands of Spanish Nationalist Forces making the Delta the type to fight or be used on both sides of the conflict. In 1936, Canada bought licence rights, partially compensating for Northrop’s business failure with the type. The Canadian machines were produced by Vickers company in versions Mk.I to Mk.III

The Curtis XP-55 was a prototype fighter aircraft made by Curtis-Wright for the US Army Air Force in the 1940's. Curtis' design featured propellers and small wings near the neck, an unusual design at the time. The first flight trial was done in July 1943, but because the development of the X-1800 engine that was planned to be installed had been canceled, the 1,000 hp Allison V-1710 I was used instead. Prototype 1 crashed during a test in November 1943. In the following year, the 2nd and 3rd machines were created, which featured a different width in the small wings to improve the maneuverability. However, maneuverability at low speed had not improved, and the development plan of this machine was canceled. The Hs 129, feared as the "flying can opener" by the Allied soldiers, will finally be released as an impressive SWS kit in 1/32 scale! The Henschel Hs 129 was the tank buster mounted with powerful ground-attack weapons to destroy Soviet tanks in the Second World War. It was a small twin-engine aircraft with an overall width of 14.2 m and length of 9.75 m, powered by two inefficient French-made Gnome-Rhône "14 M" 14-cylinder double-row star-cooled engines (700 hp) with a range of 880 km, not much different from that of the Bf 109, and its maximum speed was 407 km/h, which was not so high. However, designed specifically for ground attacks and known to be easy to service, the Hs 129 earned a high level of trust from its pilots. Several kits have been released in the past because of its peculiar shape, but they were mainly 1/72 kits, which just replicated its outer shape. This kit brings you all the details of the structure and it function in a way that only heavily-researched SWS kits can. Although the MG 17 on the wing is not mounted on the aircraft with the markings used in this kit, we replicated the BK 7.5 mounted on this aircraft employs a large drum magazine that holds 12 75mm shells and is automatically loaded by electromagnetic pneumatic control. The Hs 129 was designed to be a compactly-sized ground-attack aircraft. In particular, the B and later versions had a trapezoidal fuselage with straight wings, a textbook example of simplistic, sturdy design. With its closely-situated engine nacelles and cowlings, once can truly appreciate its functional beauty as a small twin-engine aircraft. This SWS kit pushes the limits to thoroughly replicate that functional beauty as a “miniature version of the real aircraft.” Cockpit Discover the rigid fortress-like cockpit that protected pilots from the intense ground-based anti-aircraft attacks. The Hs 129’s trapezoidal cockpit was extremely cramped due to its narrow frame. The instrument panel was reduced to only the most vital elements and the gun sight was mounted on the top of the nose outside of the cockpit. Some of the instruments were mounted to the inboard faces of the engine nacelles, like other German aircraft including the Bf 110 and Ju 88. The cockpit was encased in a sturdy fortress-like armored “bathtub” to protect the pilot from ground-based anti-aircraft gunning. The windscreen was made from multi-layer 72 mm-thick bullet-proof glass and the top 2/3 of the window was retractable to improve the ease of entering the cockpit. However, this essentially eliminated any rear visibility and greatly reduced the front visibility. The SWS kit replicates the subtle differences for the different armament versions, in additional to the shared instruments. Engine The Hs 129’s engines reveal the true value of SWS kits; learning about the development concept and historical background as you build. The Hs 129 was originally powered by the Argus As 410 engines, which had insufficient power. However, after Gnôme-Rhône 14M engine production in occupied France became a possibility, it was quickly decided that the Hs 129 was to be powered by those engines instead. The 14M engines still had insufficient power, but they were both more compact and performed better than the As 410 A engines. The variable-pitch Ratier 1527/1528 propellers were also produced in occupied France. Making use of the equipment that once belonged to an enemy country after occupation is a logical strategy that was made possible by the land connection of the European region. The "B-3," which evolved as the ultimate "tank buster" had one BK 7.5/75mm anti-tank gun for aircraft mounted as a fixed armament beneath the fuselage, and the MG 151 on the side of the fuselage was not mounted to accommodate the huge drum magazine of the BK 7.5 inside the fuselage. The BK 7.5 mounted on this aircraft employs a large drum magazine that holds 12 75mm shells and is automatically loaded by electromagnetic pneumatic control. Weighing 700 kg, this huge cannon made the aircraft slow and heavy, but its power was said to be tremendous. It is also interesting to imagine its heroic performance in defeating the IS-2 tanks with a single blow. The inner wings stored one 205-liter fuel tank on the inner side of each wing, and the wing’s inboard armament was mounted near to the fuselage. Bombs could also be mounted underneath the outer wings. The main struts were hydraulically pulled back into the nacelles behind the engines. The structure supporting the axis of the main wheels was designed to also support the engine rack in the front. The tail wheel was not retractable, and it was left exposed during flight.
