The American A-20 Havoc / Boston twin-engine bombers were deployed on many battlefields of World War II. They were very successful in the Pacific. The A-20G version was equipped with large-caliber machine guns in the nose, the rear hemisphere was guarded with a gun turret with a pair of machine guns of the same caliber. This armament was used in ground attacks, along with bombs dropped from low altitude. In addition to the American ones, RAAF Bostons were also deployed in the Pacific. Australian Bostons organized popular bomb 'tea parties'. In Europe, the A-20G operated from bases in Italy and Great Britain as tactical bombers in large formations. They were mostly led by A-20Ks with a glass nose and Norden sights. After the invasion of Europe, the A-20G also operated from French bases. This also applies to one of the machines offered in our kits. The machine with invasion stripes was decorated with a drawing of a beauty inspired by famous Vargas. Three more aircraft operated in the Pacific. Two American ones were decorated with nose art, one with a fierce beast mouth on the nose. The last aircraft flew with No.22 Sqn. RAAF. The kit offers detailed A-20G parts, broken down into five sprues of grey plastic and a sprue of clear parts. During World War I, the belligerent sides used enemy aircraft as fully functional combat units. In addition to purely combat use, the captured technology helped assess the technological development level of the enemy and identify its strengths and weaknesses. The same practice continued during World War II. Both the Allied and Axis powers extensively used captured enemy aircraft in their air forces. For example, a Ju 88A-5 bomber from 2/KGr 106 of the Luftwaffe mistakenly landed in England on November 26, 1941. The aircraft was given British identification markings, a new camouflage, and the serial number HM509, and it flew as part of the RAF until May 1944. Another interesting story involves a Ju 88A-4, captured by American forces in Italy in the fall of 1943. This bomber was incorporated into the 86th Fighter Squadron of the USAAF, where it received its original paint scheme and a bright emblem featuring an image of an Indian on the left side of the fuselage. Later, it was flown to the United States, where its appearance initially caused panic among air surveillance observers, as its silhouette was recognized as an enemy aircraft. The captured Ju 88A-4 was later stationed at several US Air Force bases and used in various public events. Training aircraft used by U.S. Navy. The Beechcraft T-34 Mentor was an American military low-wing metal training aircraft from the Cold War and modern times. The flight of the prototype took place in 1948, and the plane entered service in 1953. About 2,300 machines of this type were created in the course of production. The propulsion, in the T-34C version, was provided by a single Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6A-25 turboprop engine with 550 HP. The length of the aircraft was 8.75 meters with a wingspan of 10.16 meters. The machine did not have a permanent on-board armament. The T-34 Mentor aircraft was initially developed as a grassroots initiative by Beechcraft Aircraft Corporation, which aimed at creating a training and training aircraft that was cheap to produce and operate. It was planned to be an economical alternative to the T-6 Texan. The assumptions of the Beechcraft company partially proved successful and in 1953 the T-34 aircraft began to be used by the US Air Force, and later also by the US Navy. In the course of production, three main military versions of this aircraft were created: T-34A (version dedicated to USAF), T-34B (version dedicated to US Navy) and T-34C (version with turboprop engine). It is worth adding that the machine was also quite successful on foreign markets and was or is still operated in countries such as Argentina, Chile, France, Japan (license production) and Turkey. The Martin AM Mauler (originally XBTM) is a single-seat carrier-based attack aircraft built for the United States Navy. Designed during World War II, the Mauler encountered development delays and did not enter service until 1948 in small numbers. The aircraft proved troublesome and remained in frontline service only until 1950, when the Navy switched to the smaller and simpler Douglas AD Skyraider. Maulers remained in reserve squadrons until 1953. A few were built as AM-1Q electronic-warfare aircraft with an additional crewman in the fuselage. Multirole Tornado is a twin-engine combat aircraft with a variable-sweep wing. This kind of aircraft is the result of a joint development project carried out by British, German and Italian companies. Although during its lifetime it has been used for several purposes (ground attack, electronic combat/reconnaissance, interceptor), its main role has always been to perform low-altitude penetrating strike missions. Tornado can load and use a powerful and varied set of offensive weapons. Thanks to its two powerful afterburning turbofans, the Tornado can reach the max speed of Mach 2.2. The Tornado baptism of fire took place in 1991 during the Gulf War. More in detail, the air campaign of the Gulf War, in which the Italian Tornados IDS took part, began on 17th January. The Nemeth Parasol is a short take-off and landing aircraft designed by former aviation instructor Steven Nemeth and built by the University of Miami, making its first flight in 1934. A low-aspect-ratio circular wing attached to the fuselage of the Alliance Argo commercial biplane enabled stable flight, and a slow landing speed of 40km/h provided safe landings. It was unfortunately not researched or developed further, and only one was ever built; the fate of this aircraft is unknown. This model kit from Avis is a completely new mold, and it's limited to 500 pieces worldwide!

This military aircraft appeared as a carrier-based version of the V/STOL (short take-off and landing) fighter-attack aircraft Harrier, which entered practical use for the first time in the world by the UK. Tamiya has faithfully recreated this aircraft as a plastic model assembly kit. Features of the Sea Harrier such as variable nozzle and large canopy with good visibility faithfully recreated. Legendary Aircraft The deployment of the F-4 Phantom II started in the early 1960s and over 5,000 were manufactured during its production run. The F-4 Phantom II was operated by not only the Navy and Air Force in America, but also other countries on account of its long range and superlative loading capacity. In 1952, the Navy desired a supersonic aircraft and while the F-8 Crusader produced by the Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. was employed, the McDonnell Aircraft Corporation continued to develop a two-seater interceptor with powerful dual engines. This aircraft equipped four each of AIM-7E Sparrows and AIM-9G/H Sidewinders, and was officially adopted as the F4H-1 in December 1958 (which was later renamed the F-4A). The F-4B's production started in 1961 and its delivery began with the Fighter Squadron VF-74. In 1965, two F-4Bs shot down two North Vietnamese MiG-17 each, but the most enemy kills in the early stages of the Vietnam War were carried out by the F-8. However, from Operation Linebacker in 1972 onward, F-4 deployment increased and it was operated for air-to-ground strikes. After that, various kinds of F-4 aircraft were developed and some have even been in service with some countries for half a century. Features This is a 1/48 scale plastic model assembly kit. Developed in response to a February 1937 request from the armed forces for a fighter excelling in speed, firepower and range, the P-38 Lightning would be a wildly successful design that had around 10,000 units produced and spawned numerous US ace pilots. While its design was constantly evolved from its maiden 1939 flight onwards, more powerful engines eventually overtook the P-38's cooling function, and output was limited to 1,250hp at higher altitudes. In August 1943 the answer to this problem appeared: the P-38J, which featured intercoolers moved from the wing leading edges to the underside of the engines. The superior cooling enabled use of its full 1,425hp even at high altitudes, while the newly-available leading edge space was not put to waste, being filled with auxiliary fuel tanks to improve the fighter's range. From its first test flights in 1970 through to its retirement in 2006, the F-14 Tomcat is a carrier-based fighter that has captured the imagination; its variable sweep wing allowed automatic adjustment for optimum performance and an impressive combination of speed and maneuverability. It had a powerful AN/AWG-9 fire control system that could use AIM-54 Phoenix missiles to take on multiple targets from range. 477 of the 632 Tomcats supplied to the U.S. Navy were the early F-14A variant; their delivery to units began with carrier squadrons in 1973, and its combat debut was in the 1975 evacuation from Saigon. It was later in action in conflicts in Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan. Seventy-nine F-14As were also supplied to Iran before the 1979 Islamic Revolution and some still remain in service today. This specific model kit depicts the F-14A Tomcat variant. The F-14A was the initial two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather interceptor fighter variant for the U.S. Navy. It first flew on December 21, 1970. As a U.S. Navy fighter it fulfilled the dual roles of long range interceptor and air superiority fighter, and later bomber. Deployed from 1974 to 2006, it successfully employed a "swing wing", which offered variable sweep. The F-14A, which covers most of the early variants, was the most prolifically-produced variant of the Tomcat. 79 were exported to Iran before U.S.-Iranian relations began to deteriorate, and later took part in the Iran-Iraq War. The Mitsubishi A6M Zero was the Japanese Navy’s main fighter throughout the course of WWII. In the latter half of the war, the Model 22 was refined to create the Model 52 to counter new U.S. aircraft such as the P-38 Lightning and F4U Corsair. It featured 50cm shorter wings with rounded wingtips, individual exhaust pipes and top speed of 565km/h. A6M5a was produced with a larger capacity (125 rounds) belt-type cannon ammunition system in February 1944. The Model 52 first saw action during the closing stages of the Solomons campaign in the autumn of 1943 and went on to fight in the skies above the Marianas, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, as well as Japan itself, until the end of the war. The A6M3/3a Zero fighter (Model 22) was designed to correct some of the shortcomings of its A6M3 (Model 32) predecessor, which included reduced flight range. This entailed the Model 22 being given standard-length 12m wings and receiving a larger fuel tank, measures which were largely successful. A version was also produced with longer machine gun barrels. The Model 22 was first assigned to flight groups from early 1943, and saw action in the hotly-contested Solomon Islands area. Features This is a 1/72 scale plastic assembly model kit.
