The Aircraft Carrying Cruiser In the latter half of the Pacific War, the Japanese Navy refitted the Mogami to improve her reconnaissance ability. Construction of the Mogami was completed in July 1935, and she was initially armed with five triple 15.5cm main guns. After the withdrawal of the London Naval Treaty, she was refitted with three triple 20.3cm main guns and became a heavy cruiser. In the first half of WWII, she served at the Malayan Operation and the Battle of Sunda Strait. Later at Midway in June 1942, she was heavily damaged by an aircraft bombing raid but was able to return to port. During repairs, she was fitted with an upper deck which could carry 11 aircraft, and ten triple 25mm anti-aircraft batteries were added for defense. In May 1943, the newly shaped Mogami left the dry docks but due to damaged sustained in November of the same year from air attacks at Rabaul, she underwent further repairs and her armament was once again strengthened. In June, 1944, she served at the defense of the Mariana Islands, and it was in October at the Leyte Gulf where she saw her end when she was attacked by enemy warships suffering catastrophic damage and sank into the depths of the Mindanao Sea. The "Big E" Commissioned in 1961, the USS Enterprise was nicknamed the "Big E" and was the world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. This assembly kit depicts the ship as she appeared after she completed her refit in 1982. The kit features excellent engineering and a high level of detail throughout, with approximately one hundred parts used to recreate the bridge alone. Parts for various vehicles as well as forty aircraft are included for to allow for a busy flight deck and the model also comes with a stand to enable a gorgeous display. A Brave Warrior After the withdrawal from the Naval treaties, plans were laid to build Kagero-class warships. The Yukikaze was the 8th completed destroyer built of the Kagero-class in January 1940. The Yukikaze saw fierce action at Midway, Guadalcanal, Mariana Islands, Leyte Gulf, as well as serving in other battles throughout the Pacific Theater. Furthermore, she also served as a patrol ship and assisted in transportation duties. At the time of her completion, she initially came armed with three dual 12.7cm gun turrets and two quadruple 61cm torpedo launchers, but in the latter stages of the War, her armament was strengthened with a complement of AA guns as well as radar changing her beautiful silhouette into one of ferociousness. Even at the Ten-Ichi-Go operation in April 1945 where she fought hard alongside with the doomed Yamato, she was able to save many survivors and return safely to port. The Yukikaze survived WWII relatively undamaged she was therefore named "the Lucky Destroyer". After the war, she was used to ferry Japanese soldiers and personnel back to Japan. Later, she was transferred to the Republic of China for war reparation and served with distinction throughout the 1960s. Features Length: 338mm, Width: 31mm. The added AA guns and radar give the Yukikaze a fierce presence. The ship's hull is separated into left and right parts. The ship's riveted side plates and degaussing cables have been reproduced with great detail. Metal parts depicting the anchor chain and propellers add realism to the model. Machine gun parts feature a laser processing for a sharper, more realistic finish. Polycaps allow the main turrets and torpedo tubes to freely rotate. Signaling the End of the Battleship Era The HMS Prince of Wales took part in a number of important actions early in WWII such as the hunt for the German battleship Bismarck. She later had the misfortune to become one of the first capital ships to be sunk by airpower when she was sunk by Japanese bombers together with HMS Repulse. This assembly kit depicts the ship as she appeared during the fateful Battle of Malaya in December 1941. Differences from the HMS King George V, such as the bridge area and anti-aircraft armament, have been replicated. The kit also comes with parts to depict her Supermarine Walrus seaplane as well as Japanese G3M and G4M bombers (1 each). Comes with a display stand with name plate.

Packing Ten 20.3cm Guns! The Mogami-class was designed in 1931 as 8,500-ton light cruisers armed with five triple 15.5cm gun turrets, and the lead ship of the class, the Mogami, was completed in July 1935. She was rearmed with twin 20.3cm gun turrets in 1939 and it was in this configuration that she entered the war. She and her three sister ships formed the Japanese Second Fleets's Cruiser Division 7 and were assigned to support the landings at Malaya. During the Battle of Sunda Strait in March 1942, Mogami and her sister ship Mikuma sank the heavy cruiser USS Houston and light cruiser HMAS Perth. Following extensive damage suffered at the Battle of Midway, her stern was dramatically modified to carry reconnaissance floatplanes in an effort to enhance the fleet's scouting capabilities. She took part in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944, where she was severely damaged by U.S. carrier aircraft and had to be scuttled by friendly forces. The Heavy Cruiser Tone During WWII, the Imperial Japanese Navy decided to refit the Tone-class as heavy cruisers and the construction of the Tone was completed in November 1938. As the Tone was designed to provide reconnaissance even during battle, she was therefore armed with four 20.3cm twin gun turrets which were concentrated forward of the bridge while the aft deck was dedicated to aircraft operations and could carry up to 6 floatplanes. With a rational hull design, she featured a top speed of 35 knots and had a long cruising range. As the Pacific War broke out in December 1941, the Tone served during the Pearl Harbor attack and was also apart of the Battle of Midway and the Battle of the Philippine Sea. Later in October 1944, the Battle of Leyte Gulf saw the Tone contribute in sinking the USS Gambier Bay. She was then later assigned to the Japanese Naval Academy as a training ship and returned to Kure, where she was damaged by an air attack from the U.S. Navy's Task Force 58 in March 1945. In July, she was attacked in Etajima Bay by aircraft from Task Force 38 and sank in shallow water. Features This is a 1/350 scale plastic assembly kit of the Japanese Heavy Cruiser Tone. The World's Largest "Submarine Carrier" The I-400 was a submarine the likes of which the world had never seen before. At the time of their completion, the I-400 and her sister ships were the largest, and arguably the most advanced submarines in the world. With a 122m length, 12m width, and 6,560 ton displacement, their size rivalled that of destroyers of the time and their amazing endurance could allow them to traverse the globe one and a half times. Loaded with 3 Seiran bombers, the planned attack on the Panama Canal was only moments away from reality. Diverted to attack the gathering Allied invasion fleet at Ulithi, the war ended before the submarines could launch their strike. However, the I-400 class submarines' technological advances were recognized and it can be said that they helped influence the development of nuclear ballistic submarines after the war. The Nelson was laid down in December 1922 at the Newcastle yard of Vickers-Armstrong. She was launched on September 3rd 1925 and completed in June 1927. Her armament consisted of nine 16-inch guns in triple turrets all sited forward of her bridge, twelve 6-inch guns in twin turrets, six 4-7 inch A.A. guns and eight 2 pounder pom-poms. Also two submerged torpedo tubes housed one on each beam forward below the lower deck line. It is insteresting to note these torpedos were of the 24.5 inch type common in the Japanese Navy, but unique to Nelson and Rodney within the Royal Navy as were their 16-inch guns. In order to save weight extensive use was made of new materials in her construction, such as light weight steel, aluminium, fir for her deck in place of the traditional teak, and plywood for many internal non structural bulkheads and fittings, all of which was fireproofed. Her completed displacement was 33,950 tons over a thousand tons under the limit imposed. The Nelson and Rodney were the first British warships to have a tower bridge and mast, also the first to have flush decks since the Lord Nelsons of 1908 and have their engine rooms forward of the boilers. As protection she carried a 14-inch armour belt along her beam which ran from slightly ahead of her fore turret aft to her steering compartment. Her main turrets carried armour 16-inches thick except for their backs which were 9-inch plate, the barbettes were of 15-inch plate and her middle deck A.P. was 6 1/4 inches thick over her magazines, varying to 3-inches over her machinery spaces. She was powered by Brown-Curtis geared turbines driving two shafts and her machinery was supplied by the Wallsend Slipway and Engineering Company. These gave her a speed of 23.5 knots and 46,000 H.P. at her standard displacement on trials, though this speed was seldom attained in service. She carried a complement in peacetime of 1,300 Officers and men, this being increase in wartime to 1,700. Because of her design, a compromise at best, she handled very badly under most conditions, and especially in cross winds or in shallow water. In a following sea or going astern she steered poorly, and was slow to answer the helm under all conditions.

The Zuikaku was seen as one of the best-balanced aircraft carriers in the Pacific War. Commissioned in September 1941, she had been planned after the Japanese exit from the Washington Naval Treaty in 1936 and was as such not subject to some of the limitations it imposed, being built in-line with Navy demands. Together with her sister ship the Shokaku, she formed Carrier Division 5 and took part in the Pearl Harbor attacks of December 8, 1941, during which all of her aircraft made it back. In April 1942 she would sink the HMS Hermes in the Indian Ocean and that May she accounted for the USS Lexington in the Battle of the Coral Sea. Thereafter she served in fighting around the Solomon Islands and the South Pacific, before meeting her end at the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944. The Zuikaku is recreated with less anti-aircraft weaponry than she bore in the Battle of Leyte Gulf (as depicted in Item 31214). Decals are included to recreate flight deck lines and other details. The USS Yorktown was completed in September 1937 as the first ship of her namesake-class and the U.S. Navy's sixth aircraft carrier. When the Pacific War broke out, she became the flagship of Task Force 17 under the command of Rear Admiral Frank J. Fletcher and conducted a number of operations around the Pacific. During the Battle of the Coral Sea in May 1942, she helped thwart the Japanese Navy's advance on New Guinea despite suffering severe damage. Subsequently, at the Battle of Midway, the Yorktown and her sister ships USS Enterprise and USS Hornet defeated the Japanese Mobile Fleet, but the Yorktown herself suffered severe damage by torpedo and bomb hits from the aircraft of the Japanese carrier Hiryu. She was finally sunk by torpedoes from the Japanese submarine I-168. The Tamiya 1/700 scale model is a precise replica assembly kit of this iconic carrier during WWII. The Bogue was the lead ship of her namesake class of 11 escort carriers which were produced from 1942 to 1943 to mainly serve as convoy escorts in the Atlantic. She was responsible for sinking many German U-boats as well as the Japanese submarine I-52 which was on its way to Germany. Features The unique design with a flight deck on a merchant ship hull has been accurately reproduced by this model, together with details such as the aircraft elevator and arresting gear. The "Biber" was the most well-known "pocket" submarine used by the Kriegsmarine during the latter part of World War II. The development of the Biber was extremely rapid. Design began in February 1944, and the first units were launched just 6 months later. Measuring just 9 meters long, it had a range of 240 km. It could reach a maximum speed of 6.5 knots surfaced and 5.3 knots submerged. The Biber could be armed with two 530 mm torpedoes, mounted externally to the submarine, or with two mines. Its crew consisted of only one person. The purpose of the Biber within the strategy of the Kriegsmarine was quite simple: to provide a concrete defense along the coasts to protect against a possible, and increasingly likely, Allied invasion. The Titanic achieved tragic fame from the events that occurred during its maiden voyage on April 14, 1912. The Queen of the Sea for the White Star Line was to carry 1,316 passengers from Southampton to New York. At around 11:40 p.m., the British luxury liner collided with an iceberg in the Atlantic and was torn open on the starboard side by almost 100 m. The Titanic sank on April 15 at around 0.20 a.m. and 1,503 of the 2,206 people on board were killed. The 46,329 GRT and 267 m long ship had a water displacement of 66,000 t.

Vosper company became famous, during the Second World War, for the production of small and fast Motor Torpedo Boats (MTB) and Motor Gun Boats (MGB) for the Royal Navy. Among the various boats in production, the Vosper MTB 72’6” were characterized by a significant life cycle with different mission profiles as the coastal patrol and the anti-submarine support in the North Sea and English Channel. Moves from 3 engines with and impressive power of 4,200 hp, Vosper MTB was able to reach a speed close to 40 knots (70 km/h). The first versions were introduced at the beginning of the war but were gradually introduced new variants, type I and type II, which were characterized by a different combination of offensive and defensive weaponry.
