While blueprinting the engine, the team for the 14D car found a faulty valve, so a new cylinder head sourced from a Holden dealer. The replacement head had larger valves than the original, after checking with Holden, it was indeed the correct part for the engine. 14D was the fastest Monaro and lead most of the 1968 Bathurst. Lap scoring confusion gave McPhees 13D the checkered flag, with the 14D being recorded as finishing second. Later the scrutineers found the inlet valves were not identical to the 327 specifications and the car was disqualified. A protest commenced on the grounds that the valves were the only ones available from Holden. The team was cleared of any wrong doing, but the disqualification remained. Features A street car at heart, the 14D Monaro retained the vehicle registration plate, but had the addition of bonnet hold-downs. The sports hub caps had been removed from the race car, shown here are the steel wheel rims. The car also ran on Michelin XAS rubber. The race car interior didnt have any modifications from the road car, with the exception of the drivers harness. The buckets seats have been recreated in soft touch rubber. The race car even retained the standard seat belts, reproduced in fabric for a realistic appearance. The 327 V8 engine remained the same as the road car, with a 4-barrel down-draft carburettor, good for 250 b.h.p. The rear chassis shows off the impressive exhaust system. The dual exhaust system splits into four chrome tipped tail pipes. The front chassis shows the engine sump, exhaust system and working suspension. The Holden Torana is a mid-sized car manufactured by Holden from 1967 to 1980. The name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning “to fly”. The first Torana was released in 1967 and was a four-cylinder compact vehicle with origins in the British Vauxhall Vivas of the mid 1960s. In Australia Holden released the LJ Torana GTR XU-1, with performance-enhanced drivetrain and handling. From this time through to the release of the Holden Commodore, the Torana remained as Holden’s most successful sport vehicle, with many victories garnered in rallying and circuit racing.In February 1972, the face-lifted LJ Torana was introduced with the six-cylinder models now visually associated with the larger Holden HQ series. There were many mechanical components shared with the LC, with the major changes limited to the choice of engines.The 3300 engine was adopted as the engine for the LJ Torana GTR sedan with a total of 81,813 LJ Toranas were built by Holden in Australia, with some exported to New Zealand. The HT Monaro was introduced in 1969, as the facelift replacement to the highly successful HK. Missing from the HT lineup was the 327 cui engine, now replaced by a larger 350 cui. The larger engine pushed the output to 300 b.h.p. but only when paired with the 4-speed manual transmission. Upgrades from the HK also included the instrument cluster, with the tachometer now housed within the dashboard, the suspension was revised, and thicker brake discs.Cosmetically the front grille was changed from metal to plastic, and the rear lights were now taller and wrapped around the car. The rear of the boot lid was also now a flat panel instead of having an undercut. The most notable upgrade was to the bonnet with the addition of twin air scoops, although they were more style than function.The HT Monaro continued the racing success of the HK. In 1969 the Holden Dealer Team was formed and entered three HT Monaros in the 1969 Bathurst, with the HDT 44D car winning driven by Colin Bond and Tony Roberts. The Ford Mustang GT holds a unique place in Australian touring car history, thanks to its connection with legendary driver Dick Johnson. Over 40 years ago, in 1984, Johnson and his backer Ross Palmer (Palmer Tube Mills) imported a pair of Zakspeed-built Mustangs from Germany to compete in Australia's first season under Group A regulations. That year, Dick Johnson Racing (DJR) fielded both a Group C Ford XE Falcon and a Group A Ford Mustang GT in the Bathurst 1000. While Johnson and co-driver John French started 4th on the grid with the Falcon, the underpowered #71 Ford Mustang GT struggled in qualifying, securing 48th position. However, it was entered as a backup car in case of another disaster like Johnson’s infamous 1983 Hardies Heroes crash. In the end, the Mustang was officially withdrawn before race day, making it the only non-starter in the 64-car field. The Mustang did see race action later that year, with John French competing in a support event at Surfers Paradise, before the car was repainted in Johnson’s iconic Green #17 livery for the 1985 Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC).This 1/18 diecast replica represents this significant piece of DJR history, representing a transitional period as Australian touring car racing embraced Group A regulations. The 1999 Shell Championship Series was a motor racing series for V8 Supercars which began on 28 March 1999 at Eastern Creek Raceway and ended on 14 November 1999 at the Mount Panorama Circuit after 13 Rounds. Garth Tander driving his #34 Holden VS Commodore, representing Garry Rogers Motorsport, started off his 1999 V8 Supercar campaign with a 3rd place in Race 3 of the First Round at Eastern Creek Raceway. Tander then went one better in Round 5, finishing 2nd place in Race 3 at Hidden Valley Raceway. The very next Round at Sandown International Raceway Tander would see the podium again after finishing 3rd place in Race 3. He immediately followed that up with his best Round results to date with a 2nd place in Race 1, 3rd place in Race 2 and 2nd place in Race 3 at Queensland Raceway. Having come so close previously, Tander finally achieved his very first race win at Calder Park Raceway in Race 3 on Sunday July 25, 1999. “As soon as I got in front of Skaife (Mark Skaife) I knew I could win, nobody was going by me today” said an elated Tander afterwards. However Skaife took the Round and Tander finished in 2nd place with John Bowe in 3rd place. Tander would then go on to have a relatively uneventful remainder of the season with only a 3rd place in Race 1 of Round 10 at Winton Motor Raceway and a 2nd place at the Queensland 500 (Round 12) which took place at Queensland Raceway. Overall Garth Tander would finish the season in 5th place, amassing a total of 1470 points behind the likes of Series winner Craig Lowndes driving a Holden VT Commodore with 1918 points, Russell Ingall in 2nd place driving a Holden VT Commodore with 1804 points and in equal 3rd place was Mark Skaife driving a Holden VT Commodore and Glenn Seton driving a Ford AU Falcon, both finishing with a total of 1656 points from the season.

The 1997 Bathurst 1000 (Primus 1000 Classic) was staged at the world renowned Mount Panorama Circuit just outside of Bathurst in New South Wales on Sunday October 19, 1997. It was the inaugural “1000 Classic” race, created in response to the desire of V8 Supercar organisers AVESCO (Australian Vee Eight Supercar Company) to compete at the popular Mount Panorama Circuit outside of the traditional Bathurst 1000 event, as AVESCO were in conflict with the Bathurst 1000 organisers, the ARDC (Australian Racing Drivers’ Club). While many attempts were made to broker peace between the two bodies, there was a fundamental chasm over the issue of television coverage with AVESCO holding a series contract with Network Ten and the ARDC holding a contract with the Seven Network. The impasse was solved when Bathurst City Council negotiated a deal with AVESCO for a separate race, to be held two weeks after the 1997 AMP Bathurst 1000, which subsequently went ahead with a field of Australian and British Super Touring cars. The Darren Hossack/Steven Ellery #45 Holden VS Commodore, representing Gibson Motorsport, started the weekend off qualifying in 15th position on the grid for the Great Race and giving themselves every chance of being competitive on race day.Throughout the ebbs and flows of the almost 6 and a half hour race on Sunday, Hossack and Ellery drove a steady and consistent race ultimately finishing in a very respectable 6th place overall, completing 154 of the 161 race laps. The eventual race winners were Larry Perkins and Russell Ingall in a Holden VS Commodore, followed by Steven Richards and Jim Richards also in a Holden VS Commodore and to roundout the podium was Mark Larkham and Andrew Miedecke in a Ford EL Falcon. Holden VS Commodores dominated the 1997 Bathurst 1000, occupying 12 of the top 15 overall placings.
