The infantry still plays a key role in the battlefield even though tanks have greater firepower -- they are the only arm of the military actually able to occupy and secure the ground. Every advanced Army has invested money to give its infantry mobility, in order to keep up with their comrade tanks. The German Sd.Kfz.251 armored half-track was the ultimate design of its kind of vehicle during the second World War. The Type D was widely deployed from the later half of the war. At first glance, this kit molded in olive drab plastic does not give a sharp impression, especially to eyes accustomed to the recent lighter-colored plastic kits. But this is an illusion; the detail on this kit is superb, especially the running gear mechanism and wheels which are highly detailed even though they cannot be seen without inverting the model. The same level of detail can be found in the interior; visors with vision slots are made with several parts, for realism and accuracy. Even the cushion pads beneath the driver's ceiling have not been forgotton. Two types of bench seats for the squad are included -- leather or wooden. A pair of MG34 and MG42 are included as optional weapons. The tracks are the cementable rubber band type. Five sets of decals included for army and SS units. No figure included. An excellent model kit, giving us reason to anticipate future variations!

The Pak 40 cannon was introduced into line units from the end of 1941. Thanks to its high parameters, it became the main German anti-tank gun until the end of the war. It was able to engage in firefight with any Soviet and Allied tanks, until the appearance of such vehicles as the IS-2, M26 Pershing and Centurion. In the period 1941-1945, over 29,000 of these weapons were produced (including cannons installed on tank destroyers). Its main drawback was its relatively high weight, which required the use of an artillery tractor for its transport. Due to the wide range of ammunition it could fire, it was often used as a field cannon.

This is a lovely gift for diorama builders who want to give their guns and AFVs equipped with longer 8.8cm gun pieces plenty of ammunition! The kit consists of 24-8.8cm ammunitions; 12 spent shell cases; 18 wooden ammo containers; and 18 metal ammo containers, all made of injection plastic. Decals for the stenciled markings on projectiles and containers are included. This set is a nice companion to the 8.8cm PaK43/41 (AFV35059), Hornisse (DRA6165), Nashorn (DRA6166), Ferdinand (DRA6133), Elefant (DRA6123), or even to a King Tiger tank (DRA6189, DRA6208, TAM35164, TAM35169) and other similar weapons equipped with this gun.

This model of Sd.Kfz.251, a famous German half-tracked APC, has no extra accesory parts set and figures to enhance its leveliness. AFV Club have released their latest 251 kit, this time of the Sd.Kfz.251/21 Ausf.D "Drilling" mounting the triple MG151/20mm guns in a rotating mounting that could be used to engage ground and air targets. The kit consists of approx. 260 parts in olive drab plastic with a set of soft vinyl tracks, soft vinyl ammo belts plus a large etched fret and the decal and instruction sheets. Requiring very little clean-up and offering an alternate method of assembly to other workable link-and-length tracks on the market, AFV Club's new Tiger I Early "Hi-Tech Track" track links are here to chase those indy-link blues away.  Each link is composed of two parts: the large bottom part of the link with the track pin molded on, and a smaller bit of the top part of the link between and including the two guide horns (complete with the proper openings!), between which you sandwich the molded-in track pin (glue is necessary). It's actually much easier than that sounds!  Each part has the remnants of a tiny sprue attachment point that needs to be removed, but other than that, they're ready to be assembled. Once finished, you'll be able to easily recreate the characteristic sag evident in all Tiger tracks, without a lot of fuss and at a very reasonable price.
