Corgi 1/32 De Havilland Mos... $ PRICE IN PROGRESS!
Since the tragic loss of RR299 at Barton airfield on 21st July 1996, Britain has been without the iconic sight of a de Havilland Mosquito displaying on the Airshow circuit, an aircraft which is still colloquially referred to as the ‘Wooden Wonder’, and arguably the finest multi role combat aircraft ever conceived. In an attempt to address this situation, ‘The People’s Mosquito’ project was established to re-manufacture and rebuild a Mosquito, with the ultimate aim being to return an example of this iconic aircraft to UK skies, where it would surely be destined to become the darling of the UK Airshow circuit, an aircraft which would have benefitted from significant public support. A registered charity, ‘The People’s Mosquito’ has seen steady growth over the years, with healthy public support, ever increasing corporate involvement, and media interest levels which have continued to spur the team on in their enthusiastic endeavours. As the aircraft starts to take shape at their manufacturing facilities in Rye, East Sussex, the team are building a Mosquito in the UK for the first time in over 70 years, and when the aircraft eventually takes its triumphant place on the UK Airshow circuit, it’s likely that she will wear the markings of a No.418 Squadron RCAF night intruder Mosquito, which was engaged in mounting disruptive covert operations from RAF Ford in West Sussex during the months leading up to the D-Day landings. Corgi 1/32 Hawker Hurricane... $ PRICE IN PROGRESS!
A man who came to represent the professionalism and devotion to duty shown by Churchill’s famous ‘Few’ during the summer of 1940, Irishman John ‘Paddy’ Hemmingway joined the Royal Air Force in March 1938 and by the outbreak of the Second World War, was flying Hawker Hurricane fighters with No.85 Squadron. Sent to fight in France with the Air Component of the British Expeditionary Force, Hemmingway helped No.85 Squadron post an impressive victory tally of 90 enemy aircraft destroyed in just eleven days over France, with his personal tally including both Heinkel He-III and Dornier Do-17 bombers destroyed. Hemmingway and No.85 Squadron continued to challenge the Luftwaffe throughout the Battle of Britain, however, Paddy was forced to bale out of two Hurricanes during this period, once over English soil, the first pilot from his squadron to do so, and with his crashed Hurricane being the subject of a future excavation attempt in 1987. Hemmingway would be forced to take to his parachute four times during his wartime career, but put his survival down to Irish luck – so many of his fellow pilots didn’t enjoy the same luck. When John ‘Paddy’ Hemingway passed away in March 2025 at the age of 105, he was the last surviving fighter pilot from the Battle of France and Battle of Britain, the nation’s last remaining link to a generation to whom we will always owe so much, finally rejoining his old squadron mates in the dispersal hut.  Contents 1 x Diecast Model, 1 x Cradle, 1 x Display Base, 1 x Limited Edition Certificate Specification Item Length - Without Packaging (cm): 26.6 Item Height - Without Packaging (cm): 7 Item Width - Without Packaging (cm): 35 Item Scale: 1:32 Scale License line: BAE SYSTEMS is a registered trade mark of BAE Systems plc. On 23rd December 1944, Preddy flew his squadron to the advanced Allied airfield Y-29 at Ache in Belgium, providing crucial air cover during the Ardennes Offensive. Christmas Day 1944 would mark Preddy's final mission. Leading his unit against Luftwaffe fighters, he claimed two more Messerschmitt Bf 109Gs in a savage dogfight, though his squadron became scattered in the chaos. Vectored towards another German formation near Liege, Preddy spotted a lone Focke-Wulf flying dangerously low near Allied lines.  As he pursued at treetop height, American anti-aircraft batteries unleashed everything they had at the enemy fighter. Flying so close behind his target, Preddy's Mustang was caught in the devastating crossfire At just 25 years old, the top-scoring P-51 Mustang ace of the European Theatre was killed in a tragic friendly fire incident. His commanding officer, John C. Meyer, remembered him as "the greatest fighter pilot to have ever squinted through a gunsight, the complete fighter pilot." For our tomorrow, he gave his today. Corgi 1/32 Supermarine Spit... $ PRICE IN PROGRESS!
When it comes to the subject of people who became inextricably linked to the legacy and ongoing development of the Supermarine Spitfire, few could claim to have been as influential as Vickers test pilot Jeffrey Quill. Commissioned in the RAF in 1931, Quill joined Vickers as a test pilot in 1936, retaining his RAF volunteer reserve status, and rising to Chief Test pilot just prior to the start of the Second World War. He would become famous for flying every one of the 52 variants of Spitfire tested, from the original prototype K5054, to the Mk.47 Seafire, and has even been described in certain circles as Mr Spitfire himself. Keen to do even more to help the war effort, Quill used his RAF contacts to arrange deployment to a combat unit during the Battle of Britain, where the experienced pilots of No.65 (East India) Squadron schooled him on the finer points of aerial combat. During a short 19 day period with the unit, Quill was credited with several aircraft damaged, probably destroyed, however, to his dismay, was recalled to his test flying duties by Vickers Armstrong, because the new Spitfire Mk III was ready to begin its test program. It transpired that this work would not start for several weeks, leaving Quill livid at the situation, however, as far as Supermarine officials were concerned, Jeffrey Quill must not be risked, and would make a much greater contribution to the British war effort by test flying new Spitfires, as opposed to flying them in combat. Corgi 1/36 James Bond 007 A... $ PRICE IN PROGRESS!
Originally won by 007 in a not-so-friendly game of poker from Alex Dimitrios in Casino Royale, this left-hand drive incarnation of the Aston Martin DB5 features a unique blue and yellow registration plate from the capital city of the Bahamas, Nassau. One of the most famous cars in the world thanks to its association with James Bond, the Aston Martin DB5 was first released in 1963. A luxury grand tourer built for long distance yet high speed driving, the car was evolved from the Aston Martin DB4 Series V with the addition of a new and more powerful engine constructed entirely from aluminium. Featuring a now modest top speed of 145mph, the DB5 boasted a luxurious interior including wool pile carpets, leather reclining seats and even a fire extinguisher. Over one thousand cars were originally produced between 1963 and 1965, with an additional twenty-five going into production in 2020 as special edition James Bond releases. Corgi 1/36 James Bond 007 A... $ PRICE IN PROGRESS!
This Aston Martin DBS was issued by MI6 to the newly installed 007 as his company vehicle during a high-stakes poker tournament held at the Casino Royale in Montenegro. Equipped with a secure glove compartment for firearms and medical equipment, the vehicle was destroyed in spectacular fashion by James Bond while he was racing to save the life of British Treasury Agent Vesper Lynd. The Aston Martin DBS vehicles used in Casino Royale were hand-built prototypes, a necessity as the car had yet to enter full production while the film was being shot. Two hero vehicles and three stunt vehicles were manufactured for use in the film, with one of those used to accomplish the film’s most impressive stunt when Bond crashes the car while in pursuit of Vesper. Shot on the Hill Route at Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, UK, the low centre of gravity of the DBS made flipping the vehicle exceedingly difficult until a nitrogen powered air cannon was installed in the rear of the car. The resulting crash saw the vehicle rotate seven times in the air, which was later confirmed as a new Guinness World Record. The first new Aston Martin driven by James Bond since the debut of the DB5 is the Aston Martin DBS in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Other than a telescopic rifle concealed in the glove compartment, this car is gadget free. Designed and built as the successor to the Aston Martin DB6, the DBS was introduced in 1967. While deviating from the more classic look of previous Aston Martin cars, the DBS featured trademark design aspects such as the bonnet scoop, wire wheels, and side air vents with a stainless-steel bridge that were synonymous with earlier vehicles from the manufacturer. Though this incarnation of the DBS was retired in 1972, the name has since been resurrected twice by Aston Martin on a model produced between 2007 and 2012, and a brand-new incarnation that is available now. An aircraft which was designed to be at the close air support forefront of any military combat situation, the BAe Harrier GR9A was the ultimate incarnation of this incredible aircraft, featuring the most powerful variant of the Rolls Royce Pegasus engine, along with upgraded avionics and weapons capability. Harrier ZG478 was operated by the Coningsby based No.41(R) Squadron, the Fast Jet Test & Evaluation Unit, which flew sorties in close collaboration with defence manufacturers and research institutions to enable the successful integration of new weapons and effective delivery techniques. Established as a reserve squadron on 31st March 2006, the unit operated a mixed fleet of Harriers and Tornado GR4’s in this important role, with Harrier ZG478 sporting this spectacular special tail in celebration of No.41 Squadron’s 90th Anniversary during 2006. The double (patriarchal) cross crest is proudly carried in honour of the unit’s first overseas deployment to the French town of St Omer during the Great War, and is taken from the town’s flag and was adopted, along with the motto ‘Seek and Destroy’ by the squadron in early 1937. This aircraft was famously destroyed by fire after a heavy landing when entering a busy pattern at Kandahar Airport during the War in Afghanistan in May 2009. With the tail striking the ground, the pilot successfully ejected when flames started licking around the cockpit, with the aircraft eventually succumbing to the flames. For an aircraft which was only photographed during the very final weeks of the Great War, it’s interesting to note just how much detail the Jasta 19 artist managed to incorporate into his beautiful design on this Fokker D.VII fighter. The immaculately painted dragon was an identical copy of the image carried on an advert for the Unterberg & Helme Company, a firm famous for the design and production of world leading engine ignition systems at that time, but why was it replicated so perfectly when Germany was clearly losing the war remains something of a mystery? Although Wilhelm Leusch joined the Luftstreitkräfte in October 1914, he was initially posted to fly artillery spotting missions over the Western Front, and it wouldn’t be until after joining Royal Prussian Jasta 19 in April 1917 that he started scoring aerial victories. Promoted to command the unit in October 1918 following the death of the previous commander, Leusch wouldn’t increase his victory tally of 5 enemy aircraft destroyed, as the Allies had such overwhelming superiority at that time, despite the unrivalled fighting credentials of the Fokker D.VII. By the end of the war, this distinctively presented Fokker was pictured under French control, although it isn’t known whether this was the result of a combat engagement, of if Leusch had flown it there as part of the armistice terms, like so many other surviving Fokker D.VIIs. Josef Jacobs' journey from teenage aviation enthusiast to legendary fighter ace represents one of the most remarkable careers of the Great War. Learning to fly at just eighteen in 1912, he began the conflict as a motorcycle dispatch rider before his natural aptitude saw him transition to aerial reconnaissance.  His studious nature and exceptional skill caught the attention of senior pilots, earning him a coveted position at the newly formed Fokkerstaffel West, where he became one of the world's first dedicated fighter pilots flying the revolutionary Fokker Eindecker series. Jacobs spent longer in operational flying over the Western Front trenches than any other German pilot, facing every major Allied ace of the period. His distinguished career saw him eventually command Jagdstaffel 22, where he mastered the iconic Fokker Dr.1 triplane, achieving an unprecedented 30 victories in this aircraft alone, more than any other pilot.  This Eindecker release perfectly complements the earlier Aviation Archive Fokker Dr.1 featuring Jacobs' distinctive black triplane.By war's end, Jacobs had secured 48 confirmed victories, placing him joint quarter among German aces alongside Werner Voss, and earning him the prestigious Pour le Mérite, the legendary 'Blue Max'. His legacy endures as a testament to skill, dedication and the dawn of aerial warfare. When it comes to RAF aircraft which have benefitted from the application of special commemorative schemes, there’s one machine which still enjoys legendary status amongst Britain’s army of aviation enthusiasts, Phantom FG.1 ‘Black Mike’.  An aircraft which had recently transferred to the care of RAF No.111 Squadron at Leuchars, XV582 was selected to receive this unique scheme as the squadron wanted to mark both the RAF service of the Phantom, and the heritage of their famous unit, heritage which included the ‘Black Arrows’ Aerobatic Display Team.  Between 1955 and 1960, this team flew aerobatic demonstrations in their gloss black painted Hawker Hunter jets at Airshows all over Britain, including the Farnborough show in 1958, where the team captured a world record by looping 22 Hunters in formation.  In commemoration of this, XV582 was given this smart all-over gloss black scheme, initially for just a static ‘At Home’ Airshow appearance at Leuchars in 1989, but proved so popular that she exhausted her remaining airframe hours the following year as Treble One squadron’s display aircraft.  Known as ‘Black Mike’ because of her colour and her squadron letter, XV582 became the aircraft every RAF pilot wanted to fly, but with her Airshow commitments and low remaining flying hours, only a fortunate few managed to do so.  Making her final flight on 22nd September 1990, ‘Black Mike’ was retired to become a static star of many a Leuchars Airshow, but always retaining her iconic status with aviation enthusiasts. The Avro Vulcan remains one of the most spectacular and cherished British aircraft ever to take to the skies. XL426 served as the RAF's Vulcan Display Flight aircraft, thrilling millions at airshows across the nation before being deemed 'no longer required' and sold to a private buyer in 1986. Her final flight was a brief 20-minute delivery hop from RAF Scampton to Southend Airport, where she has resided ever since under the dedicated stewardship of the Vulcan Restoration Trust. In March 1997, XL426 performed her first fast taxi demonstration along Southend's main runway, an event that has since become a phenomenon among aviation enthusiasts. These high-speed runs offer a rare 'living' Vulcan experience, with the thunderous roar of her engines drawing spectators from across the country.  Even holidaymakers aboard modern Airbus jets pause to watch in awe as this magnificent delta-winged bomber trumpets down the runway, a testament to the enduring affection the British public holds for this remarkable aircraft. Few British aircraft of the Cold War era can match the mighty Avro Vulcan for sheer aesthetic impact, and this CORGI Aviation Archive 1:72 scale diecast model captures the legendary bomber in stunning detail.  Representing XL426, now under the care of the Vulcan Restoration Trust at London Southend Airport, this exceptional collectible celebrates one of Britain's most beloved aircraft.  Ready to display straight from the box, this premium diecast model requires no assembly and comes complete with a display stand. When it comes to aircraft stalwarts of the UK Airshow scene, one magnificent machine stands head and shoulders above all others, an aircraft which made its first display appearance over 50 years ago, and is still thrilling crowds to this day. Incredibly, this aircraft doesn’t benefit from any form of government sponsorship support, with its success being as much about the resolve and determination of the aircraft’s tireless owner, as it is about the fact that ‘Sally B’ is now the sole airworthy Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress in European skies. A mighty airborne tribute to the American airmen who flew from bases in Britain during the Second World War, it’s entirely appropriate that the aircraft calls IWM Duxford its home airfield, as the American Air Museum shares the same site, and also marks the significant contribution of British based US personnel during WWII. Between them, they are responsible for encouraging thousands of visitors to the Cambridgeshire area each and every year, many from America, and many looking to tread in the same footsteps their wartime relatives did who served in Europe during the Second World War. The successful completion of B-17 ‘Sally B’s’ 50th display season was a proud achievement for this famous aircraft and the team who care for her, who despite plenty of setbacks over the years, remain determined in their resolve to ensure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to see this magnificent aircraft in the sky. One of the lead pilots within a mighty force of 177 B-24 Liberator bombers sent to attack the oil production facilities at Ploiești, Col John ‘Killer’ Kane had recently requested the return of his personal aircraft ‘Hail Columbia’ in advance of this important mission. Having flown this aircraft many times on previous missions, he handed it over to other crews after promotion to command the USAAF 98th Bomb Group, however, as he was now to take part in this maximum effort raid, wanted his trusted Liberator back. The mission was so vital to the Allied war effort that it would need to be flown at low altitude both to avoid detection and to ensure bombing accuracy, however, a loss rate approaching 50 percent was anticipated by planners hoping to strike a decisive blow. ‘Hail Columbia’ led the 98th BG to the Astra Românǎ refinery after the target had already been attacked by lead bombers, flying at rooftop height and straight into the flames and dense smoke of the devastation ahead. Kane released his bombs right over the target, but with his aircraft suffering significant damage, set a course over the Black Sea, across Turkey, and on to the British controlled Island of Cyprus, where he made an emergency landing. Colonel John Riley ‘Killer’ Kane would be one of five ‘Operation Tidal Wave’ airmen to be awarded the Medal of Honor for displaying conspicuous gallantry in the face of the enemy. When it comes to allowing the public to interact with historic aeroplanes, nobody does so quite like the Commemorative Air Force (CAF). Honouring the heroes of yesterday by inspiring the heroes of tomorrow, those involved with CAF are dedicated to this vital mission, inspiring millions of people by educating them about their aircraft and the people who built, flew, and maintained them. One of the latest aircraft to join the CAF fleet is a Douglas AC-47 Gunship, known as ‘Spooky 086.’ The aircraft is assigned to the CAF’s Texas-based Gulf Coast Wing, where members have worked hard to prepare it for its debut on the US historic aviation scene. The AC-47 is a beautiful example of the fire support platforms that served with distinction during the Vietnam War.  This aircraft was originally built as a C-47B in 1944 and later assigned to the US Navy as an R4D-6. Although this aircraft didn’t serve in Vietnam, the CAF intends for this project to highlight the aircraft's adaptability, which enabled its conversion into an airborne fire support platform 25 years after it was originally built.  Spooky gunships could loiter over a battlefield, circling and concentrating fire, making them an effective early counterinsurgency aircraft. The code markings worn by “Spooky 086” do not designate a specific AC-47 that served but rather pay tribute to 86 individual AC-47 crew members who lost their lives whilst serving during the Vietnam War. In the dark night skies over Vietnam, a terrifying new weapon had been introduced by American forces trying to protect their troops on the ground, a combination of older aeroplanes and cutting edge technology that resulted in the creation of fire spewing dragons capable of laying down 6,000 rounds of suppressing fire every minute.  The venerable Douglas C-47 Skytrain had been modified to become one of the most feared weapons of the conflict, however, ‘Spooky’ crews wouldn’t always have it their own way. On the night of 24th February 1969, the crew of gunship 43-49770 ‘Spooky 71’ had been called to provide fire support for troop under attack at Long Binh, but whilst doing so, their aircraft had taken a direct mortar round hit in the right wing, resulting in a gaping hole and the aircraft being peppered with 3,500 shrapnel holes.  The aircraft lurched violently and the fire crew were thrown off their feet, all suffering from multiple shrapnel wounds. Bleeding profusely, Airman First Class John Levitow could see one of his crewmates was in danger of falling out of the open cargo door, and fought through the pain of his wounds to drag him to a safer position.  Unfortunately, he also saw that the flare his colleague had been trying to throw out of the aircraft prior to the mortar hit had blown back into the cabin and was smoking, about to detonate. He threw his body on top of the flare and slowly ushered it towards the open door using his last reserves of strength, rolling it into the night sky seconds before it detonated.  For his heroic, selfless actions which saved both his aircraft and crewmates, John Levitow was rightfully awarded the Medal of Honor. Despite the drama and devastation in the night sky above the Long Binh US Army post, the aircraft did manage to make it back to its home base safely, where ground crews were able to assess the damage from the mortar strike, and count every one of the 3,500 shrapnel holes which peppered the wings and fuselage of the aircraft. Corgi 1/72 Gloster Gladiato... $ PRICE IN PROGRESS!
Although the Gloster Gladiator represented the very pinnacle of fighter capability on entering Royal Air Force service at the beginning of 1937, the pace of aviation development at that time dictated that it would be considered essentially obsolete with the arrival of the eight-gun Hawker Hurricane later that same year. By the start of the Second World War, Gladiators were not considered capable of defending Britain’s airspace against Luftwaffe attack, however, the impressive fighting qualities of the Gladiator were to be demonstrated in combat far away from home skies. Pilot Alan Boyd was one of several notable Australian pilots to fly the Gladiator against Italian CR42 fighters in the Middle East, one of the RAAF’s celebrated No.3 Squadron ‘Originals’ who served with such distinction during WWII, credited with three enemy aircraft destroyed and a further one as ‘probable’ during the RAAF’s very first combat engagement in theatre. On 13th December 1940, Boyd claimed a further two enemy aircraft destroyed, but had his own fighter damaged during the combat, forcing him to make a landing on the desert floor. Incredibly, he managed to make running repairs to the control lines of his fighter, and was later able to take off again to make the flight back to Gerawala airfield. During a six week period, Boyd would become a Gladiator ‘Ace’, credited with at least six enemy aircraft destroyed, with four, possibly five of this number secured whilst flying his usually assigned fighter, N5752. Features Ready to display - no assembly required Premium 1:72 scale diecast construction Rotatable propeller for authentic detail Historically accurate markings and paint scheme Includes display stand History The Hawker Hurricane earned its legendary status during the Battle of Britain, destroying more enemy aircraft than all of Britain's other defences combined. By the summer of 1940, even as Hurricanes fought to stem the Luftwaffe tide, engineers were developing a major upgrade. The Hurricane Mk.II arrived with an uprated Merlin engine, but its thick, straight wing design meant it would find its true calling beyond traditional dogfighting roles. The Hurricane IIc variant, armed with four devastating 20mm Hispano cannons, proved highly effective in coastal anti-shipping raids and low-altitude 'Rhubarb' strikes into occupied Europe. Its powerful armament excelled against ground targets, whilst the aircraft also found success as a nightfighter and 'Hurribomber' in North Africa's desert campaigns. This particular aircraft, Z3897, gained fame through a Pathé newsreel featuring mock combat against a captured Junkers Ju88, showcasing the Hurricane's impressive manoeuvrability. The aircraft was the personal mount of Belfast-born William W. McConnell, who served with RAF No.1 Squadron from May 1941 through March 1942, becoming a noted ground attack specialist.  His Hurricane wore distinctive nose artwork that made it instantly recognisable, a testament to the personal connection between pilot and machine during those crucial wartime years. Premium diecast construction and authentic paint scheme reproduction make this a standout addition to any collection.  Features Ready to display - no assembly required Authentic 1:72 scale diecast construction Features the distinctive progressive paint scheme of "Virginia Marie" Rotatable propellers for realistic presentation Includes display stand for immediate showcase History The Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighters flown by the USAAF 5th Air Force's 475th Fighter Group 'Satan's Angels' were among the most visually striking aircraft of the Pacific Theatre, but their bold appearance masked a lethal combat effectiveness. With twin engines providing added security and concentrated nose-mounted firepower, the Lightning became a formidable adversary that Japanese pilots learnt to fear and respect. The 475th Fighter Group's success earned them the ominous nickname 'Bloody Butchers of Rabaul' from their adversaries. "Virginia Marie" was delivered to the 433rd Fighter Squadron at Hollandia Airfield in early 1944, where she received her remarkable markings in an unconventional manner. According to pilot Carroll R. Anderson, the aircraft's striking scheme evolved progressively over several weeks, making liberal use of the squadron's medium blue identification colour. The final artistic touches were completed during the Group Commander's absence from base, allowing the dedicated ground crew to fully express their talents. Notably, "Virginia Marie" became the only Lightning in the 433rd Fighter Squadron to receive its complete intended paint scheme, making this aircraft a unique and celebrated example of wartime nose art and unit pride. Features Ready to display - no assembly required Premium diecast metal construction with painted finish Historically accurate green and grey camouflage scheme Rotating propeller for enhanced display options Includes display stand for immediate presentation History During the early stages of the Second World War, the Mitsubishi Zero stood as one of the most formidable fighter aircraft in the skies, a worthy contemporary of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 and Supermarine Spitfire.  Engineered specifically for the vast expanses of the Pacific Theatre, the Zero combined heavy armament with exceptional manoeuvrability, achieving an impressive 12:1 success ratio in early combat operations against Chinese aircraft. However, unlike its European counterparts which proved highly adaptable to successive upgrades, the Zero's design would eventually be surpassed by more advanced Allied fighters.  The Japanese Navy's nomenclature system designated this aircraft as the A6M, identifying it as the 6th carrier fighter type to enter service, with the M denoting Mitsubishi as manufacturer. The Type 21 variant introduced a crucial innovation: folding wing tips that enabled more efficient operations from Japanese navy carriers. Approximately 3,700 of these aircraft were produced, with manufacturing split between Mitsubishi and Nakajima.  Formed on 1st October 1943, the 381st Kokutai operated as a fighter-bomber unit supporting Japanese ground forces engaged in brutal combat against American and Australian troops.  By May 1944, the unit found itself fighting a desperate attritional battle against superior Allied air forces in West Papua, with reinforcements a distant hope and the outcome grimly inevitable. This 1:72 scale CORGI Aviation Archive North American F-86E Sabre represents one of the most significant jet fighters of the Korean War era, perfect for aviation enthusiasts and Cold War collectors.  Depicting Eleanor 'E' CHRISTINE, flown by distinguished ace pilot William T. 'Bill' Whisner Jr in 1952, this premium diecast model captures the sleek lines and authentic markings of this legendary fighter.  Ready to display straight from the box, this exceptional collectible requires no assembly and includes a display stand. Features Ready to display - no assembly required Premium 1:72 scale diecast construction Authentic markings of William T. Whisner Jr's aircraft Silver finish with accurate period details Includes display stand History The post-war era saw victorious Allied nations harnessing captured German jet research to propel their own aviation technology forward, leading to a new generation of swept-wing fighters.  When tensions erupted into conflict on the Korean peninsula, the skies became a proving ground for the world's most advanced jets - the American F-86 Sabre and Soviet MiG-15. This would mark the first major aerial combat of the Cold War. The US Air Force fielded not only the exceptional Sabre, a true pilot's aircraft, but also veteran airmen who had proven themselves in the Second World War. Among these accomplished pilots was William T. Whisner, already a 15.5 victory ace from WWII.  Flying North American's magnificent fighter over Korea, he claimed 2 enemy aircraft destroyed in the F-86A and 3 more in the later F-86E, with additional shared and damaged victories.  Whisner achieved the rare distinction of becoming one of only seven US airmen to earn 'Ace' status in two wars, and uniquely, the only pilot awarded three Distinguished Flying Crosses. The Sabre's dominance in Korean skies proved devastating to enemy forces. During a 32-month period of the war, the magnificent North American F-86 accounted for 792 of the over 800 Soviet-made MiG-15 fighters shot down by Allied airmen. Some of the hardest working aircraft in RAF service during the Second World War, the Mitchells of 139 Wing, Second Tactical Air Force were amongst the first strike units to transfer to forward operating bases in France and Belgium following D-Day advances, as these rugged and capable bombers continued to fly close air support missions for advancing Allied ground forces in hostile skies. The most heavily used variant of the Mitchell in RAF service was the B-25C/D model, of which 538 were received - this variant was referred to as the Mitchell II in British service. One of the most significant examples of this number, Mitchell FL176 / VO-B ‘Grumpy’ was heavily engaged in strike operations leading up to D-Day, initially targeting suspected V-1 launch sites along the coastlines of France and Belgium, so called ‘No-Ball’ raids, before moving on to ‘soften up’ targets in northern France in preparation for invasion itself, such as marshalling yards, communications centres and enemy airfields. She would serve with distinction throughout this historic period and was famously pictured at Dunsfold having the 102nd mission marking painted on her forward fuselage. She would eventually post an impressive 125 bombing missions, plus a further two Air Sea Rescue missions, a record for an RAF Mitchell. Her impressive wartime career encouraged the UK based Fighter Collection to present their Mitchell in ‘Grumpy’ markings, when they operated their aircraft for around fifteen years between 1987 and 2003. William T. 'Bill' Whisner rose to prominence as the trusted wingman of legendary US ace George Preddy, before carving out his own remarkable legacy as one of America's most respected fighter pilots. His most spectacular achievement came on 21st November 1944 during a mission over the synthetic oil refineries at Merseburg, where he destroyed five FW190 fighters in just twenty frantic minutes of combat, with two more probably destroyed. This extraordinary feat earned him the Distinguished Service Cross. Whisner's second DSC came on New Year's Day 1945 during the Luftwaffe's audacious 'Operation Bodenplatte' raid, when 65 enemy fighters attacked airfield Y-29 Asch in Belgium. Taking off in his faithful Mustang 'Moonbeam McSWINE', he immediately engaged approaching enemy aircraft. Before his undercarriage had fully retracted, he was already firing at a Focke Wulf Fw190, sending it crashing to the ground.   Moments later, enemy cannon shells struck his fighter, but despite the damage, Whisner refused to disengage. He stayed with his battered Mustang to claim a second Focke Wulf and two Messerschmitt Bf109s destroyed, bringing his total victory score to 15.5 aircraft. These would be Whisner's final victories of the Second World War, but his combat career was far from over.  He went on to become one of only seven US airmen to achieve ace status during the Korean War, this time flying the North American F-86A/E Sabre jet, cementing his place among the most accomplished fighter pilots in American military history. This CORGI Aviation Archive 1:72 scale North American P-51D Mustang is a must-have for collectors of Second World War fighter aircraft, capturing the famous 'Moonbeam McSWINE' flown by ace pilot William T. 'Bill' Whisner Jr during his most heroic combat missions of 1944-45.  Featuring authentic markings and premium diecast construction, this exceptional model commemorates one of the few American pilots to achieve ace status in both the Second World War and the Korean War.  Ready to display straight from the box with no assembly required, this detailed replica brings aviation history to life in your collection.
