The Dornier Do 217 was a twin-engine bomber developed and deployed by the German military in World War II. The prototype made its first flight in October 1938. Development continued thereafter, and it entered service in 1941. The mass-produced version was equipped with two BMW 801A engines. In addition to the pilot, the cockpit carried four crew members: a bombardier/nose gunner, a rear gunner/radio operator, and a flight engineer/rear gunner. It was active on various fronts until the end of the war. Continuous improvements were made from the time it entered service in 1941, and various variant types were also produced. One of them was the Nachtj?ger night fighter, equipped with radar and other features in the nose. It fought valiantly to intercept Allied bombers that attacked German airspace at night.The Do217K2 was specialized for anti-ship attacks. This aircraft operated the German-developed guided bomb "Fritz X". The General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark is a twin-engine supersonic fighter-bomber with variable-sweep wings. Produced from the late 1960s, it remained in service until the late 1990s, representing a significant technological leap compared to aircraft of its time due to the solutions adopted. The F-111 was capable of reaching speeds of Mach 2.5 and carrying a substantial offensive payload. The aircraft had a crew of two, seated side by side in a pressurized cockpit featuring an escape module for emergency ejection. The F-111 was used in several conflicts, including the Vietnam War, where it was employed for nighttime bombing missions and low-altitude attacks. The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was one of the best aircraft designed during the Second World War. Produced in more than 20,000 units starting in 1941, it was, together with the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the most famous fighter of the Luftwaffe. The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-8 was equipped with a BMW 801 D-2 twin-row, 14-cylinder radial engine delivering 1,700 hp, allowing it to reach a maximum speed of 653 km/h. It was heavily armed with two MG 131 machine guns and four 20 mm MG 151 cannons. In the first months of 1944, the A-8 version entered production, featuring an injection system capable of increasing engine power to over 1,900 hp for short periods. The KC-135 is an aerial refueling tanker of the US Air Force that began operation in 1957 and is still in active service today after numerous modifications. Developed by Boeing, the total number of aircraft produced, including all types, exceeds 800. From the late 1970s, a modernization program was implemented, and updates were carried out, including engine replacement. Among these, the KC-135R is a type based on the KC-135A, with the engine replaced with a CFM56 turbofan engine, F108-CF-100, increased fuel capacity, and an auxiliary power unit (APU) added. Deployment began in 1984. A key feature is that the APU allows for engine starting and other operations even in locations without ground support facilities, expanding the range of operations. This is a plastic model assembly kit that reproduces the KC-135 Stratotanker, an aerial refueling tanker operated by the US military. Specifically, it models the KC-135R/FR type. The Me-323 “Gigant” was one of the largest transport aircraft built during the Second World War. It was developed to meet the specific requirement of the Luftwaffe, following the extension of supply lines, to transport troops and materials over long distances. Initially developed from a glider, it was equipped with six radial engines mounted on the wing leading edge, capable of providing sufficient power for fully loaded flight operations. The enormous fuselage was able to carry troops—more than 120 men—supplies, artillery pieces, and light vehicles. Its great transport capacity compromised its maximum speed, which only slightly exceeded 240 km/h. It was employed on the North African and Tunisian fronts to supply the Afrika Korps from bases in Sicily, as well as on the Russian front. It is considered a milestone in transport aircraft history. The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk was developed in the 1950s and became one of the most famous and widely used light attack aircraft in the history of aviation. The F-22 Raptor represents the new air superiority fighter presently under construction for the U.S. Air Force. It will eventually substitute the F-15 Eagles which have been in service since the late seventies. This U.S. Navy aircraft was one of the most famous and reliable air-planes of World War II. It replaced its predecessor, the standard Navy fighter Wildcat, which did not match the Japanese fighter Zero. The Hellcat, first introduced in 1943 was a highly manoeuvrable aircraft despite its extensive dimensions. The robust fuselage of this carrier-borne plane was able to absorb substantial damage. The Saab JAS 39 Gripen entered service in the second half of the 1990s, representing a significant advancement over its predecessors, such as the long-serving Saab 37 Viggen. The Swedish air superiority and multirole fighter was soon developed in a two-seat version to meet the demands of advanced pilot training. This variant retained essentially the same high performance as the single-seat fighter, while offering greater operational flexibility, enabling it to carry out reconnaissance and ground-attack missions. The medium transport and attack helicopter Chinook, developed for the U.S. Army during the sixties in its most recent versions, is also in service with many other armed forces around the world. This version has been substantially modified and was designed for special missions of the U.S. Armed Forces. It is a long range version with large tanks originally developed for civilian use. The MH-47 is equipped with sophisticated night vision and satellite navigational systems. The Macchi MC.205 is a development of the previous MC.202 Folgore, undoubtedly the best fighter plane used by the Italian Air Force during the 2nd World War. This aircraft, with a more powerful engine, offered excellent handling and good speed, although it had limited armament which, however, was increased during production with the addition of two 20 MM cannons. But the limits of Italian industry prevented production from reaching the necessary level for the war action requirements of these aeroplanes, and the quantity of machines delivered to the squadrons was insufficient to influence the overwhelming air-power of the Allies. The General Dynamics EF-111 Raven was developed on the aerodynamic platform of the ground-attack aircraft F-111 Aardvark. The supersonic aircraft, featuring variable-geometry wings, was identified as a suitable platform to accommodate the electronic components necessary to effectively perform the new assigned tasks. The EF-111 Raven thus became a benchmark for Electronic Warfare missions, being employed in various operational activities in Libya, Bosnia, and Iraq. Easily recognizable by the prominent protrusion on the rear fin, it was equipped with state-of-the-art electronics for its time, including terrain-mapping radar and the adoption of radar jamming systems and electronic countermeasures. The cockpit was also redesigned with the installation of a control suite specifically configured for the Electronic Warfare Officer (EWO), the officer specializing in electronic warfare. The British Aerospace Sea Harrier was a VTOL / STOVL (Short take-off and vertical landing) capable fighter, developed to equip the air arm sections of the British Royal Navy. It entered into service during the late ‘70s and early ‘80s with the main operational role of fleet air defence aircraft. In 1982 it was deployed on HMS Invincible and HMS Hermes during the Falklands war, fully demonstrating its operational effectiveness during the conflict. Unable to match the speed and flight characteristics of opposing aircraft such as the Mirage 111, it was nevertheless extremely manoeuvrable and reliable in all operating conditions. The Sea Harrier was equipped with an effective offensive armament capability, consisting of two 30mm ADEN guns installed in pods under the fuselage and by 4 sub-wing hardpoints to launch air-to-air missiles. This robust helicopter was first introduced during the mid-fifties and may be the best known rotor-blade aircraft world-wide. Reliability is its greatest feature. It was designed for the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. Thousands of UH-1s are in service as transport, ambulance and attack aircraft. Licensed production in Italy, Germany and Japan make it part of the armed and police forces of more than fifty nations. Presently twin-engine versions are being produced.

The A-26 Invader, a twin-engine attack aircraft designed and manufactured by the American company Douglas, exhibited extraordinary operational longevity. The first units reached the front lines during World War II in 1944, and later variants participated in all major conflicts of the 1950s and 1960s, such as the Korean and Indochina wars, and even the Vietnam War. The most widely produced version was the "B" model, distinguished by its heavy armament. The closed nose section housed between 6 and 8 Browning M2 .50 caliber (12.7 mm) machine guns, significantly enhancing its firepower. Due to the Invader's robust structural design, the nose could also be fitted with 20 mm or 37 mm cannons, as well as a 75 mm howitzer. Powered by two reliable Pratt & Whitney R-2800 “Double Wasp” radial engines, each producing 2,000 horsepower, the Invader could achieve a top speed of 570 km/h even at full operational load. Based on the earlier C.R.32, which obtained remarkable results during the Spanish War, the C.R.42 was made entirely of metal and had a A.74 engine of 840 HP. 200 specimens denominated Falco were ordered immediately by the Aeronautics division and were used during the initial phases of the Second World War. ?It was also very successful, commercially speaking and was indeed exported to Sweden, Belgium and Hungary. The lack of valid monoplanes extended the period of service of the C.R.42s in the line-ups of the Aeronautics division through to Armistice Day Following the 8th September 1943, production continued for Luftwaffe, who also used it widely as a night fighter. ?The total production exceeded 1.500.
