The Toyota AE86 Trueno, which was released in May 1983, adopted an FR layout at a time when FF was the norm; the engine was also changed from the previous 2T-G to a newly developed 4A-G. The body variations, along with its sister car the Levin, are a three-door hatchback and a two-door coupe. The model name changes depending on the engine, with the 4A-G-equipped car being called the AE86 and the 1500cc 3A-U-equipped car being called the AE85; their popularity continues to this day. The second generation Savanna RX-7, the FC3S, was introduced in October 1985 as a fully redesigned version of the previous generation SA22C. The completely redesigned FC3S inherited the glamorous body with blister fenders and traditional retractable headlights, and the suspension evolved to a four-wheel independent suspension with front struts and rear multi-links. The engine was a 13B-T twin-scroll turbo with intercooler, and it gained popularity as a sports machine that combined sharp handling with high power.
