The Turbostar was an important commercial success for Iveco. Very common—especially for the needs of food logistics—were the insulated and refrigerated cell versions. The US G7107 1.5‑ton 4×4 truck was one of the most important medium‑duty vehicles used by the U.S. Army during World War II. The European truck manufacturers carry only very few conventional (long-hood) trucks in their roster because of legal length limitations for tractor-trailer units. The new conventional, built by Scania, is therefore mainly used for extra-heavy tasks and construction work. Due to the fact that the engine is mounted in front ot the driver's cabin, the T-143 features a spacious driving compartment and has a lower noise level than the «R» type. Engine and cockpit are identical to the Streamline version. In Australia this version is used succesfully for the so called Road Trains, which carry up to three trailers with an overall length of 43 m. The extended wheel base (4,2 m) improves the truck's dnving comfort.
