The Sherman tank was a staple of the Allied effort in WWII, with a total of about 50,000 vehicles produced, among which were a host of different variants such as the M4 Sherman 105mm Howitzer, a variant used in fire support. The M4 hull featured rolled steel plates, and it employed a 9-cylinder air-cooled radial engine in the rear which powered the front sprockets via a 5-speed transmission with reverse; the 105mm gun fired howitzer rounds, smoke rounds and incendiary ammunition. The late production vehicle had horizontal vertical spring suspension (HVSS) and 840 units were produced, providing infantry support and taking part in assaults on enemy strongpoints from Europe to the Pacific Theater. Controlled Differential Steering System In WWII, the average tracked vehicle used a clutch brake system, whereby the sprocket on the turning side was braked to create a difference in speed between the tracks and let the vehicle turn. While it did enable pivot turns on the spot by completely stopping one track, it required considerable skill to operate, not to mention the fact that it experienced mechanical power loss and a tendency to overheat the brakes. On the other hand, the M4 Sherman used a controlled differential system that braked a sprocket wheel via a differential gear: as the turning side track slowed, the other track sped up, leading to smooth turns and in one fell swoop both minimizing mechanical loss and negating brake overheating issues. This system was also employed on the M24, the M8, and the M2 high speed tractor, vehicles which all contributed to the eventual success of the Allied WWII campaign. Features This is a 1/16 scale R/C model assembly kit. Just like the actual tank, the model uses a controlled differential steering system. Metal components are used for drive sprockets, suspension arms and idler wheel bases. The horizontal vertical spring suspension (HVSS) uses metal coil springs. Pre-assembled plastic tracks use metal pins and connectors. Mechanical Steering System A differential gear transfers power from the Type 540 motor. When the tracks rotate at the same speed the model moves in a straight line, turning as the track speeds differ: transmitter commands cause servo movement, which in turn slows the turning side track via one of the brake discs in the differential. During WWII, U.S. forces developed the M10 tank destroyer with 76.2mm gun, but it was not effective against powerful German tanks such as the Tiger and Panther. Perched upon the M10A1 chassis equipped with a 450hp gasoline engine, the M36 employed a new open top turret and a 90mm gun. The M36 saw its first action on the Franco-German border in October 1944 and continued until the German surrender in May 1945. Over 1,000 M36s were deployed among 21 battalions and contributed to the Allied forces’ advance. This model assembly kit recreates the U.S. Tank Destroyer M36. The subject was first released in 1968 as a motorized single motor kit. It’s now been recreated from the ground up with new tooling, except for the M2 machine gun and clear parts used in other Tamiya WW2 kits that use these newer parts. The Japanese Navy's Last Heavy Cruiser The Chikuma was completed in May 1939 as the second ship of the Tone-class. She was the final heavy cruiser to be built by the Japanese Navy and featured a distinctive design which concentrated four twin 20.3cm main gun turrets forward of the bridge in order to allow unimpeded launching of her six floatplanes from the aft deck during battle. Chikuma often accompanied the Japanese Navy's aircraft carriers since her floatplanes provided considerable reconnaissance capabilities to the fleet, and she was present at such important engagements as the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Battle of Midway. She continued to serve valiantly until her demise at the hands of U.S. carrier aircraft during the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944. Audi R8 LMS Based upon the Audi sportscar R8 and conforming to GT3 regulations, the Audi R8 LMS was announced in 2008. A 5.2-liter V10 midship engine capable of over 500hp was mounted in a lightweight aluminum space frame. Body sections were modified, and the drivetrain was changed from 4WD to a rear-wheel drive system. From 2009 onward, this car was delivered to racing teams around the world and achieved many racing successes. The Scania 770 S 4x2 is a single front steering, single rear-axle drive four-wheel heavy trailer head equipped with a 16.4-liter V8 turbo engine capable of 770hp. It was added in 2020 to the Swedish manufacturer Scania’s top-grade S Series. The 4x2 trailer heads are versatile and are a popular type of truck in Europe and in our line-up of kit offerings. This kit also has accessory parts to recreate a customized version like those which are trendy in Europe. Features 1/14 scale R/C model assembly kit. A close-up on the molded plastic bull bar, which is made up of ABS-PC frame and ABS mesh components. 2-section side mirrors are affixed on moving plastic mounts. Kerb mirrors are also recreated. The roof bar is equipped with a light bar and a nameboard with a choice of 4 decorative stickers. The antenna and metal plated horns add extra detail to the roof. Metal plated steps have accurate grip patterns. Headlights and fog lamps have reflectors for use with separately sold LEDs. Enjoy gear changes with the model's three-speed transmission. The rear suspension uses a reinforced resin axle and metal leaf springs. Dual tires are used at the rear, and of course feature realistic tread. A coupler is included to allow connection of semi trailers from the extensive Tamiya line-up. Fuel tanks are recreated with accuracy, and side skirt marker lamps can be lit up with separately sold LEDs. Rear lights are compatible with separately sold LEDs for brake and reverse lights, plus turn signals. The separately sold Multi-Function Control unit's control box can be stowed neatly inside the exhaust box/fuel tank. A driver figure is included, as is a stickered representation of the Scania griffin.
