The Kuma-class were the representative Japanese Navy light cruisers of the Taisho-era. Completed in 1920, she took part in operations around the Aleutian Islands and the Philippines. This model depicts the ship as she appeared in 1932, with three funnels, 8cm DP guns, and a canvas canopy over the bridge. Degaussing cables and anchors are also sharply recreated. This model would make a great display with other Kuma-class light cruisers. Length: 230mm

Japanese Navy doctrine had battleships and their big guns playing the main role in naval battles, and a powerful "8-8" fleet of 8 battleships and 8 battlecruisers was planned. To escort this fleet, the Kuma was laid down in 1918 as the lead ship of her namesake class of 5,500 ton light cruisers. This model depicts the ship as she appeared between 1939 and 1940, with her 3 straight funnels, simple bridge, and single 14cm guns, all distinctive features of Japanese light cruisers from that era, accurately reproduced. Even the degaussing cables anchors are crisply molded on the plastic. Length: 230mm.

Laid down as the fourth ship of the Agano-class in 1939 as part of the Fourth Fleet Replenishment Plan, the Yahagi was completed in December 1943 and went on to serve valiantly in the Battle of the Philippine Sea. Perhaps she is most famous for her fateful final sortie to Okinawa with the battleship Yamato. Her distinctive armament of two quadruple torpedo launchers are sharply reproduced, as are the many anti-aircraft guns that were added to the cruiser's final form. Length: 247mm.

Tamiya presents the unique Japanese Navy Aircraft Carrying Cruiser Mogami, which was able to carry eleven hydroplanes in the second half of the Pacific war. She was equipped with 15.5cm cannons mounted on 5 dual gun turrets and was completed on July 1935 as the 1st ship of the "Mogami class" cruisers. The main guns were replaced during 1939/40 with dual 20cm gun turrets transforming these light cruisers into heavy cruisers. In the first half of the WWII, the Mogami took part in the Malay landing operation and the battle of Sunda Strait. However, during the battle of Midway in June 1942, the Mogami violently crushed into the port side of the Mikuma. During repairs, the rear part of the ship was equipped with a flight deck that could fit eleven planes and ten 25mm triple gun anti-aircraft batteries were added. The Mogami participated in the Battle of the Mariana in June 1944 and in October 1944, she fought against enemy fleet at night in the Battle of Leyte. After sustaining heavy fire from the US fleet, the Mogami erupted in flames, and the decision was made to abandon ship and scuttle it with torpedoes. The replicated layout of the rear flight deck, where Aichi E13A "Jake" and Mitsubishi F1M "Pete" hydroplanes were loaded with rails and turntables, is based on recently acquired data.

This is an assembly kit of the Hatsuyuki, the third ship of the Fubuki-class of "Special Type" destroyers. Although a revolutionary design, it was also plagued by a weak hull, a fact demonstrated when the Hatsuyuki's bow was shorn off by the force of waves during a typhoon in 1935. This incident led the Japanese Navy to give its destroyers strengthening modifications. The Hatsuyuki went on to see action at the Battle of Malaya and the Battle of Sunda Strait, and this model depicts the ship with its additional AA armament. Length: 157mm. Light cruisers had the important role of being destroyer flotilla leaders, coordinating their unit's torpedo attacks while making attacks themselves. In 1939, a new class of such flotilla leaders was created under the Fourth Fleet Replenishment Plan, and this is a model of the Agano, the lead ship of her namesake class which served throughout the Pacific until she was sunk by a U.S. submarine in the waters off of Truk. This kit depicts the ship as she appeared upon her completion in 1942, and accurately reproduces the balanced design including her masts and twin 15cm gun turrets. Length: 247mm.

This is an assembly kit of the Shokaku, which was a mainstay of the Japanese Navy's Mobile Fleet from the start of WWII to when she was sunk by U.S. submarines at the Battle of the Philippine Sea. With a good combination of speed, armament, and protection, she is often regarded as the ideal aircraft carrier. This model depicts the ship as she appeared in early WWII, during operations such as the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Battle of the Eastern Solomons. Markings are included for the white lines and landing markers on the flight deck, as is a full set of aircraft including Mitsubishi A6M2 fighters and Aichi D3A bombers. Length: 367mm.

This is an assembly kit of the Hibiki, which was commissioned in 1933 and survived the war after taking part in numerous battles such as the invasions of Malaya and Kiska and the Battle of the Philippine Sea. The narrow fore funnel and other features unique to the Type III "Special Type" destroyers are accurately reproduced, as are the many triple 25mm AA guns that were added from 1944. This model would make for a great comparison with her fellow Type III sister ship Akatsuki or earlier Fubuki-class destroyers such as the Fubuki or Ayanami. Length: 157mm. There were four batches of "Special Type" destroyers, Type I, IA, II, and III. The Ayanami was the first Type II ship and was completed in 1930. The shapes of the funnels, bridge, turrets, etc. differed from those on the earlier Type I Fubuki-class ships and these differences are accurately reproduced. Small parts such as AA guns and boats are also highly detailed. During WWII, she took part in the invasion of Malaya, the Battle of Midway, and Battle of Eastern Solomons before finally being sunk by US forces in the 2nd Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. This model depicts the ship as she appeared before the war began.

Following the Ohsumi (deployed in 1998) came the LST-4002 Shimokita, which went into service on November, 2000. Adapting stealth technology, Shimokita's bridge area was constructed with flat surfaces. She boasts an immense upper deck, with an overall length of 160m and total breadth of 25.8m. The front deck is devoted to vehicle loading space and the rear deck serves as a heliport. The front of her hull is 100m long and combined with her upper deck can transport up to 10 tanks or other large military vehicles. The rear hull is 60m long and acts as a well-dock housing LCAC (Landing Craft Air Cushions). The Shimokita has a crew of 130, and can transport 330 ground troops. In the event of a disaster she can accommodate over 1000 civilians. Like her predecessor, the Ohsumi, the Shimokita type vessel enables the efficient transport of JSDF ground troops, rescue of civilians in the event of a large scale natural disaster, and potentially functions as a supply base for United Nations Peace Keeping Operations.Features This is the 1/700 sclale assembly model kit based on the state-of-the-art transport ship of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force, Shimokita. The Nagara-class of 5,500 ton light cruisers were modelled on British designs and built in the late-1910s. This model depicts the Nagara, the leadship of this 6-ship class. Its simple design focused on speed, and features such as the "spoon bow" revealed its British influences. During WWII, she was active in many battles from the Philippines to Midway before she was finally sunk by a U.S. submarine in 1944. The model depicts how she appeared in her final form, with additional AA guns fitted. Length: 200mm.

A main characteristic of the heavily armored Mogami class cruisers was the use of weight saving techniques. This, however, resulted in concerns for the ships overall strength and stability. The Kumano, the last Mogami cruiser completed in 1937, was subsequently fitted with a large bulge, and the upper deck was built narrower and lower than the first two Mogami cruisers. 920m/sec., a max. range of 27,400m and a projection angle up to 55 degrees. These 15.5cm triple guns were highly respected by artillery experts. The Kumano participated in many battles during WWII including the Battle of Midway, the Battle of the Eastern Solomons, and the greatest naval battle of WWII, the Battle of Leyte Gulf, before suffering a simultaneous torpedo attack causing it to sink in Santa Cruz Bay in 1944. One of the largest carriers of WWII, Shinano was originally planned to be the third installment of Yamato class battleships. The construction of this monstrous vessel was started soon after the Japanese defeat at Midway and was completed on Nov. 19, 1944. Its overall length stretched to 266m and it displaced 62,000 tons. It was well protected with heavily armored sides, inherited from Yamato, and a reinforced flight deck able to withstand the direct blast of a 500kg bomb. On its way to be fitted out however, it was spotted and torpedoed by an American submarine, later capsizing off the shores of Shionomisaki. Features This is the 1/700 assembly model kit of Shinano, the massive carrier, which was sunk only ten days after being put into commission. The unique hull design of Yamato and Musashi was passed down to Shinano, and has been accurately molded. The hangar under the flight deck has also been recreated, and can be equipped with aircraft. Both the front and rear aircraft elevators can be modeled in the raised or lowered position. The bridge, sloping funnel, and steam pipes have also been modeled with the utmost attention to detail. Kit also features accurate molding of rocket launchers, powerful anti-aircraft guns, and other powerful weapons of Shinano. Kit includes 32 aircraft, including the Ryusei. Since aircraft are molded in clear plastic, leaving the cabin portion unpainted produces a realistic finish.

This is an assembly kit of the Tama, which was completed as the 2nd ship of the Kuma-class in 1920. From 1942 to 1943, she was involved in operations around the Aleutian Islands such as the invasion of Kiska and the Battle of the Komandorski Islands, before being sunk by submarine attack in waters off the Philippines. The model depicts the ship as she appeared near the end of 1942 during the invasion of Kiska. For these northern operations, she had a white and dark gray camouflage, giving her a unique appearance among Japanese Navy warships. Length: 230mm.

This is an assembly kit of the King George V, a 35,000 ton battleship completed in October 1940. She took part in the sinking of the German battleship Bismarck with the HMS Rodney in May 1941, and was active in the Pacific during the latter half of the war, including bombarding Japan's home islands. The model depicts the ship as she appeared during these operations against Japan, with additional radar and anti-aircraft armament. The funnel, bridge, and deck areas all feature realistic details. Length: 322mm.

Always on the Front Line The Kagero was completed in November 1939, the lead ship of the Kagero class of destroyers that was the first constructed by the Japanese after their exit from the London Naval Treaty in 1937. The Kagero class packed a heavy punch with three twin 12.7cm gun placements and two 61cm quadruple torpedo tubes, and combined that with a top speed of 35 knots, plus a range of 5,000nmi at 18 knots. The Kagero took part in some of the most renowned actions on the seas in WWII, including the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, the Battle of Midway in 1942, and major assasults on Rabaul and Colombo. Although largely starved of opportunities to show what it could do, in the November 1942 Battle of Tassafaronga the Kagero used its Type 93 "long lance" torpedoes to great effect, together with eight other vessels scoring hits on the US ships Minneapolis, New Orleans, Pensacola and Northampton, crippling and eventually sinking the latter. Many of her sorties were otherwise made ferrying reinforcements and supplies to Japanese bases. She met her end in May 1943, sunk by mines in the Blackett Strait off of Kolombangara. The Iowa Class Battleships were the largest and final great battleships of the US Navy. They included the BB-61 Iowa, the BB-62 New Jersey, and the third ship, the famous BB-63 Battleship Missouri. These ships, which boasted an amazing 212,000hp allowing a 33 knot top speed, were armed with massive 40.6cm main guns. The Iowa Class ships stretched 270.4m but were relatively thin, with only 33m max width, enabling them to pass through the Panama Canal. Being commissioned in June 1944, the USS Missouri took part in many operations during the Pacific War including bombardments on Japanese mainland and capital. On September 2, 1945, the treaty for the unconditional surrender of Japanese forces was signed onboard the deck of the historic USS Missouri. With the outbreak of the Korean War in June 1950 the USS Missouri was deployed again with the other Iowa Class Battleships for fire support. The USS Missouri was relegated to reserve duty in 1955, but became subject to complete renovation and modernization in 1986 when she was fitted with the latest in electronic weapon systems, cruise missiles and other improvements. In 1991, the USS Missouri was deployed to fight in the Gulf War. Finally, in 1993, after about a half-century of service, this historic Battleship was at last retired. During WWII, the USS Missouri wore 2 different camouflage schemes. When completed in June 1944, this battleship was painted in what was called Measure 32/22D camouflage which consisted in splashes of three colors applied all along the ship. In 1945, this was change to Measure 22 camouflage which consisted of dark gray for almost all the hull and light gray for the remaining vertical surfaces. The kit includes a color sheet displaying the camouflage schemes, showing both sides of Measure 32/22D camouflage. You can enlarge it by 120% to use it as a template to paint your model. The British Navy's Beautiful Silhouette From the time of its building, the British Battle Cruiser Repulse was the one of the most aesthetically pleasing warships made. During WWI, the light armored battle cruiser had high speed and an offensive ability and took a leading role in sea offensives. In August, 1916 the construction of the Repulse had been completed. After the Great War, the Repulse's side armor and armaments were both strengthened and modernized. When WWII broke out, the Repulse actively participated in the chasing of the German battleship Bismarck. Later it was deployed to the Far East where tensions ran high with Japan. December 10, 1941 two days after the beginning of the Pacific War, together the Repulse and the new battleship the Prince of Wales, ngaged the Malaysian invading Japanese forces. The battleship Repulse was later sunk by thunderous intensive Japanese aerial bombing attacks. America's Last King of the Sea Commissioned in February 1943, the USS Iowa served briefly in the Atlantic before departing for the Pacific Theater in January 1944. She served mainly to support carrier based air strikes against Japanese-held islands, protecting said carriers and shelling enemy shore and naval positions. She took part in the Marianas campaign and the Battle of Leyte Gulf, although she missed a chance for a showdown with the Japanese battleship Yamato. After assisting the assault on the Philippines, Iowa took part in the Okinawa invasion as well as supporting air strikes on Kyushu. Together with sister ships USS Missouri and USS Wisconsin, Iowa bombarded industrial cities on the Japanese homeland towards the end of the war. A Force to be Reckoned With The Musashi was the second ship in the Yamato class of battleships built by the Japanese Navy. Her most distinguishing features were her nine huge 46cm guns, which had a range of 41km and could penetrate 43cm of armor plating at a distance of up to 30km. The massive ship had a displacement of over 70,000 tons, and was laid down on March 29, 2013. Some two and a half years later in November 1940 she was launched and finally commissioned for service on August 5, 1942. In order to provide the best defensive capability possible, she employed an astonishing 21,000 tons of armor plating; in addition, the ship was made a short as possible and its layout grouped key parts such as the bridge in the center of the ship. After serving as the flagship of the Japanese fleet from February 1943 to March 1944, she took part in combat operations in the Philippines. On October 24, 1944, Musashi was attacked by several U.S. planes and took a number of torpedo hits leading to her sinking. One of Yamato's Final Escorts 1/350 Scale Japanese Destroyer Yukikaze The Yukikaze formed part of the escort force for the Yamato's final mission and returned with many of her survivors. A Highly Decorated Destroyer USS Fletcher (DD-445) was the lead ship of her namesake class of destroyers, of which 175 were built during WWII, and she went on to a long and distinguished service career. The Big J Circa 1982 The 45,000-ton Iowa-class was the the largest and last battleships built by the U.S. Navy. The USS New Jersey, affectionately known as the "Big J," was the second ship of this class and saw service in WWII from early-1944. However, the advent of carrier airpower changed the nature of naval warfare and New Jersey was withdrawn from frontline duty after WWII in 1948. She was reactivated to participate in the Korean War and Vietnam War, but was again placed in reserve in 1969. However, thanks to President Reagan's policy of strengthening the navy, the modernization of the Iowa-class was proposed in 1981 and New Jersey was chosen as the first ship to undergo this program. She was equipped with new weaponry including Tomahawk cruise missiles, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, and Phalanx CIWS as well as new radars, ECM, and other electronic systems. She served as a missile-carrying battleship until her final decommissioning in 1991 and was eventually stricken from the U.S. Navy register in 1995.
