The latest conversion to Unifrog is now available. This time we have updated the Streamline OO/HO scale Code 100 Small Radius "Y" turnout to conform to this new format. Produced from brand new tooling this replaced the former Insulfrog and Electrofrog SL-97 and SL-E97 (both of these are now discontinued and out of stock). Y Turnouts are really useful track components - their main benefit being as great space-savers. By combining the Y with the short crossing you can create a tight radius double junction and using several Ys together allows you to fit more routes in a restricted space. Ideal when building small loco yards and goods sidings. It's what the real railways would have done after all! The Unifrog Conversion On a Unifrog turnout the frog tip and wing rails are electrically isolated from all other rails. The turnout can be used as supplied on a DC or DCC layout without any modification, using the standard SL-10 rail joiner. If desired, the frog tip and wing rails can be powered by connecting the wire welded underneath to a changeover switch or microswitch working in unison with one of our turnout motors. Basically, as supplied the turnout operates as an Insulfrog turnout. If the frog is powered then it operates as an Electrofrog turnout. So, the best of both worlds in one unit! Peco Streamline Bullhead 0 Gauge track has set unsurpassed standards for 7mm scale realism. Superbly detailed, its 'wood grain' sleepers are the correct scale width and have integrally moulded scale chairs with square headed fixing bolts and wooden keys. This range is compatible with the 0 Setrack range; and if, as on the real network, you wish to use a combination of Bullhead and Flat Bottom track the SL-713 Transition Track provides an ideal way to connect the two types.

This 12mm gauge track system is accurately modelled in H0 on the metre gauge track found in Europe, most notably in Switzerland. It is also useful for modelling the 3ft 6ins track found in southern Africa, Japan, Australia, Norway and parts of South America; in 4mm scale the gauge is correct for the many 3ft gauge lines formerly found in Ireland and the Isle of Man. This versatile track could also be used for modelling in TT (3mm/ft scale)

Even today, bullhead track can still be found on secondary routes and in sidings, so the time frame for this track is very wide. With sleeper dimensions and spacing closer to 4mm/OO scale (despite the track gauge still being 16.5mm), visually this track does look impressive once ballasted and weathered. It was always going to be a compromise, but we think that the result is pleasing to the eye. Certainly, the attention to detail of the rail chair fixings should be noted, a visual necessity for replicating true bullhead track. This new motor is suitable for all PECO turntables, so that includes the N, OO/HO, O-16.5 (On30), SM-32 and the HOm scale versions.This non-indexing motor (which means that there are no pre-set or programmable settings) means that the modeller can simply line up the deck against the exit or entrance road by eye, and the controls allow for small adjustments should things not align perfectly. This gives the modeller ultimate flexibility and control, and means that existing turntables on layouts can easily accommodate the new motor without any major track re-laying exercise! Power has to be provided from an independent 12vDC 2 amp supply, but other than that everything needed is included. Operating the motor is straightforward: you press and hold either of the clockwise or anti-clockwise buttons to rotate the deck and release the button when you wish to stop. Operation is extremely smooth. Retro-fitting the motor to an existing turntable in-situ is easy. The kit is supplied with three mounting fixtures that, when assembled, are glued to the underside of the turntable deck. There is also a special joining collar that links the motor to the central shaft of the turntable deck. Full instructions are included in the kit.
