He achieved great victories and shattered records in an era when Anglo-Saxons dominated ocean racing. Far from resting on his laurels, he continued building increasingly efficient boats and winning regattas . He met his end when he disappeared in the waters of the English Channel while sailing his old Pen Duick to participate in a classic Scottish sailing regatta.
