As WWII progressed and German forces lost their air superiority amid fierce Allied raids in the sky, Germany looked to bolster ground to air defense with the development of self propelled anti-aircraft guns based upon tanks and half-track vehicles. The 8ton half-track (Sd.Kfz.7/2) was one of those such weapons. The half-track chassis employed had a proven track record towing 88mm guns, but was now fitted with its own 3.7cm anti-aircraft cannon that could fire 160 rounds per minute. Produced from 1943, later variants were also fitted with armor on the driver seat and radiator.

During WWII, the German Tiger I was greatly feared by Allied forces for its thick armor and powerful 88mm gun. This is a 1/35 scale plastic assembly kit model of the German Tiger I late production variant which was put in production from January 1944 and appeared on the Normandy front. Features of the late production variant of the Tiger I, including the distinctive silhouette, the powerful 88mm gun, periscope on commander's cupola, and pressed steel wheels, have all been realistically reproduced. In addition, shell loading area in the turret as well as hatch undersides have detailed finish. The Sd.Kfz. 251 half-track stable was the centerpiece of the German Mechanized Corps, throughout the World War II. First production began in 1939, with the series classified into four types from Ausf. A to D, according to the production period. The early models used a very complicated body construction, made up of obliquely placed armor plates. This was somewhat simplified in the C and D types, to make mass production easier. The final, D production version appeared at the front in 1943, and it became the most widely used model among the many variants. More than 10,000 units of the D-type alone, were produced and entered service by the end of the conflict. Late in the war, the Sd.Kfz. 251 vehicles were mounted with a wide variety of equipment and armament for varied roles. Although originally developed as an armored personnel carrier, its high mobility and versatility allowed it to be used in a great number of roles. One of the variants, was the 251/9, which was equipped with the short barreled 7.5cm KwK37 L/24 cannon. This is the same cannon that was used as a main gun for the early versions of the Pz.Kpfw.IV and Sturmgeschutz III assault gun. With this fire power, the 251/9 was used mostly to provide direct fire support for the armored infantry, during the advance and static defense stages of the conflict.

Knowing that patrolling coastal and river waterways during a conflict in Vietnam was going to be extremely hazardous, the U.S. Navy searched for a boat design that could be quickly produced and employed. One chosen was a fiberglass-hulled pleasure craft built by Modutec Marine in Seattle Washington.The Patrol Boat, River or PBR as it was known militarily, became one of the most successful weapons systems used in Southeast Asia. It was 31" 11" long ; 11; 7" wide, and 9"9" high above the waterline. It displaced 8 3/4 tons loaded drawing two feet of water. It's crew of four was armed with a pair of .50 cal gun or grenade launcher mounted on a tripod in the fantail, plus a single M-60 on a pipe mount bolted to one of the amidships splinter shields. It was powered by two turbocharged Detroit Diesel 205 HP, V-6 marine engines, driving a pair of Jaccuzzi 14JY water jetdrives. The engines were located underneath the aft decking, and the boat was steered by two movable nozzles below the water line, mounted on the rear transom. The water intakes were located on the hull bottom. It had a top speed in excess of 25 knots. Surface radar and two-way radio equipment provided communication and maneuvering safety.

British forces in the 1991 Persian Gulf War were able to rely on a significant asset in the Challenger 1, its awe-inspiring 120mm main gun accounting for numerous Iraqi T-72 tanks, and the crew protected ably by front and side composite and reactive armor.
This kit can be assembled to recreate a Challenger 1 used by British forces, or also NATO troops. Nylon mesh is included to recreate the baskets encircling the turret. The first M1 tank was delivered to the U.S. Army in February 1980, and was officially named and christened the "Abrams" by the widow of the late General Creighton Abrams.
This new Abrams tank benefited from the latest technological wonders of the time, giving it enormous advantage on any battlefield. The turret, being very angular and squat, had a very roomy interior. This angular design was combined with Chobham armor for excellent protection against the kinetic energy from hollow charge projectiles. The hull sides and rear panels are vertical, with only the front angled to deflect anti-tank shots. The 1500 horsepower Avco-Lycoming AGT-1500 turbine engine provides remarkable speed and maneuverability plus being regarded as one of the quietest tank powerplants available today.
During the mid 1980's the M1 underwent an improvement program to upgrade the 105mm gun to the type M256 120mm smoothbore cannon. The armor at the frontal area of the lower hull front and turret was also increased, and it was given the new designation of "M1A1." Other improvements are seen in the enlarged rear turret bustle stowage rack, a new style crosswind sensor, a revised gunner's sight mount, plus reinforced suspension and transmission unit. Both the M1 and M1A1 Abrams were deployed during the Persian Gulf Conflict and they demonstrated outstanding performance and combat success.

The M60 is an American second-generation main battle tank MBT. It was officially standardized as the Tank, Combat, Full Tracked: 105-mm Gun, M60 in March 1959. Although developed from the M48 Patton, the M60 tank series was never officially christened as a Patton tank. The US Army considered it a "product-improved descendant" of the Patton tank's design. The design similarities are evident comparing the original version of the M60 and the M48A2. It has been sometimes informally grouped as a member of the Patton tank family.

Modern Russian tanks are well known for superb mobility and a distinctive, low silhouette, offering as small a target as possible on the battlefield. In the late 1960's, the highly sophisticated T64 tank was produced to replace the Soviets T62 main battle tank. The T64 had the advanced feature of automatic canon loading, that eliminated the requirement for a loader, reducing the crew from four men to three. The T-64 tank; however, proved to be unreliable due to its complicated mechanics, and this led to the development of the T72 tank. The T72, despite its close external resemblance to the T-64, was created in an attempt to simplify the overall design; improve its maintenance capability; and to also enhance productivity. The refined type 2A46 125mm gun with its auto-loading system is capable of firing high explosive or hollow-charge, armor-piercing ammunition. The powerplant is a type V-46, V-12 cylinder, multi-fuel engine. The standard production designated T72M1 uses reinforced frontal armor and incorporates a laser range finder. This versatile tank, which began service a the beginning of the 1970s has been in production for many years, and had been license produced in many of the Warsaw Pact countries. Even during the 1980's when a new T80 main battle tank was introduced to replace the aging T-64, the T-72 series continued to be the centerpiece of the Russian armed forces.

1953 was the year that the Duster began deployment, intended as to accompany armored units as an anti-aircraft presence. The King Tiger made its debut in 1944, toward the end of WWII, and proved a fearsome foe to the Allies, with 150mm and 80mm armor on the hull front and sides respectively, and a powerful 700hp Maybach HL230-P30 engine. The first fifty had a Porsche-designed turret, but thereafter mass-produced King Tigers had an updated turret designed by Henschel. The L/71 88mm gun was upgraded from the Tiger I, and could defeat 170mm of armor from a kilometer away. Some 430 of these King Tigers were produced until the end of the run in March 1945, proving a constant threat to the end.

A Tough Nut to Crack
The King Tiger was the final mass produced German tank of WWII, coming as it did in 1944. With armor 150mm thick on the front and 80mm on the sides, its hull was a tough nut to crack, while firepower was provided by a new, upgraded version of the 88mm main gun: as a result, it could tear through enemy armor of 152mm from up to two kilometers, and its survivability was a real concern for Allied armor. The first fifty King Tigers were fitted with a turret designed by Porsche, noted for its rounded design; they joined the first King Tiger unit in June 1944 which fought back against the Allies who landed in Normandy.
