Aoshima's "Waterline" model-kit line has now been renewed with a higher level of precision! This is a 1/700-scale kit of the engineering ship Akashi, a ship that enables on-site ship repair and modification, and has been considered the most important attack target by the U.S. military. The parts are simple and easy to assemble, and can be accurately reproduced with a parts configuration that keeps the main points down, such as the construction crane in the center of the ship, and the specially designed carrier-based boat. Newly designed various equipment, such as high-angle guns and naval vessels, have been added. Slide-molding is used to create dense precision; in addition to armaments such as destroyer main guns and machine guns, carrier-based aircraft and various equipment have also been updated. Construction was completed on the Oi in 1921 in Kobe's Kawasaki shipyard. She was assigned to the 2nd Fleet's 4th Squadron and was used as a practice ship for the naval academy. She participated in the Battle of Midway, and afterwards was converted into a high-speed transport with the removal of the torpedo instrumentation. On Sept. 19, 1944, she wa sighted sunk in the South China Sea by an American submarine, the USS Flasher. Molded in gray plastic, and includes decals.

The Japanese Navy light cruiser Kitakami returns to Aoshima's 1/700-scale "Waterline" ship model kit series, with the common outfitting parts now newly molded for more precision and a higher level of detail. Kitakami was a Kuma-class cruiser in the Imperial Japanese Navy, named after the Kitakami River in Iwate Prefecture, Japan. After the construction of the Tenryū-class cruisers, the drawbacks of the small cruiser concept became apparent. At the end of 1917, plans for an additional six Tenryū-class vessels, plus three new-design 7,200 ton-class scout cruisers were shelved, in place of an intermediate 5,500 ton-class vessel which could be used as both a long-range, high speed reconnaissance ship, and also as a command vessel for destroyer or submarine flotillas. Kitakami was the third in a series of five vessels in this class which were built from 1918-1921.

The Japanese Navy destroyer Maikaze returns to Aoshima's 1/700-scale "Waterline" ship model kit series, with the common outfitting parts now newly molded for more precision and a higher level of detail. Maikaze upon commissioning was assigned to destroyer division 4 (Arashi, Hagikaze, Nowaki, Maikaze), and a few months later was still around during the start of WW2 for Japan. At the bgiining of the war, Maikaze saw various escorting duties throughout the Philippines and Dutch East Indies in the early parts of 1942 and served as a carrier escort during the Battle of Midway, where she survived American air attacks undamaged, then helped to evacuate and scuttle the Japanese aircraft carriers Akagi and Kaga. Maikaze embarked on troop and supply transport missions throughout the Guadalcanal campaign, and on August 24 Maikaze escorted aircraft carriers during the battle of the Eastern Solomons, and on October 26 escorted carriers during the battle of Santa Cruz, and from December 13-18, she towed her crippled sistership Nowaki to Truk.

The Hatsuzuki, the fourth Akizuki-class destroyer, was built as an anti-aircraft destroyer, and challenged the U.S. Navy's cruiser force alone in the Leyte Gulf. Aoshima's 1/700-scale "Waterline" model kit of the Hatsuzuki features parts that are simple and easy to assemble, with only the essential parts included. Newly designed equipment such as the 10cm anti-aircraft gun and shipboard boats, which are characteristic of the Akizuki-class destroyers, have been added. The parts are slide-molded for precision and accuracy, and the outfitting parts are newly molded. The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer Takanami, an active frontline vessel, has been recreated as a 1/700 scale plastic model kit.
