The all-wheel-drive ZIL-131 has a reliable design, excellent off-road capabilities, and high load capacity. Although produced in the 1980s, it remains actively used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a versatile platform for various tasks. In combat, some trucks are field-modified with heavy small arms or light artillery weapons. One common modification involves mounting a DShKM machine gun in the truck bed on pedestals or mounts, transforming these vehicles into mobile machine gun platforms for fire support or engaging aerial targets. The DShKM is a powerful weapon with broad applications. Its muzzle energy reaches 19.2 kJ, and its high rate of fire combined with reliability makes it one of the best in its class. It’s also effective against lightly armored vehicles—the B-32 armor-piercing incendiary round penetrates 20 mm armor at distances up to 500 meters. The machine gun uses various ammunition types: armor-piercing, incendiary, armor-piercing incendiary, tandem, explosive, and others. American Civil War Union Infantry. Set #2 The infantry in the Union army by the initial period of the war was about 80% of the total number of all armed forces. The main tactical unit was a regiment of about 1,000 men. The basis of the army of the North was made up of volunteer units, the number of which significantly exceeded the units of the professional army. As a rule, the soldiers of one unit were from any one state. More than half of the soldiers were recruited from the urban population. It should also be noted that in military-technical terms, the army of the North was better prepared than the army of the South. At the beginning of the Civil War, infantry tactics were still dominated by outdated views on combat techniques, for example, moving on the battlefield in close close formations. In conditions of high density of fire and the massive use of rifled weapons, this led to high losses and forced the command of both sides of the conflict to look for new ways of combat formations of infantry units. The payload of one and a half tons made it possible to successfully use the Unimog S as an ambulance (Krankenkraftwagen). Such vehicles were built using standard closed bodies in various versions. The interior of the bodies could be adapted to meet different needs – for example, to carry four stretchers with patients, or to combine stretchers and seats. Wide doors in the rear of the body facilitated the process of loading stretchers inside. The ambulances had large white circles with red crosses to facilitate identification, a detail that was of great importance in the context of possible military operations. As in the case of standard general-purpose vans, different versions of the bodies appeared during operation, with differences in the details of the roof, windows, and so on. Due to their excellent cross-country ability and good performance, these vehicles were in service with the Bundeswehr for many years. In 1934, Panhard began producing the Panhard 178 armored car, designed for cavalry reconnaissance. These vehicles featured a rear-mounted engine, four-wheel drive, and a 25-mm anti-tank gun as main armament. Production ran until mid-June 1940, with 527 vehicles manufactured. The Panhard 178 saw combat in spring 1940 with French cavalry units and gained an excellent reputation. Military specialists widely regarded them as among the best vehicles in their class. Following France’s defeat in June 1940, about 190 of these armored cars were absorbed into German forces, while French factories produced several dozen more for the Wehrmacht. The Germans redesignated them as Panzerspähwagen P204(f). Some were converted to command vehicles by installing Hochantenne roof antennas that covered most of the hull’s upper surface. These modified versions received the additional designation “Funk” and served both on the Eastern Front and in occupied France. A large portion of the Wehrmacht’s truck fleet during World War II consisted of 3-ton cargo vehicles. One such model was the G917T, which had been produced at the Ford plants in Cologne, Germany, since 1939. These trucks were widely used across many units of the German army and on various fronts until the end of the war. Between 1939 and 1941, approximately 25,000 G917T trucks were produced. Some of these vehicles were converted into improvised self-propelled anti-aircraft platforms (similar conversions were also made with other Wehrmacht vehicles, such as the Opel Blitz or the half-track V3000S/SSM). Anti-aircraft guns were mounted in the cargo beds of these trucks, sometimes placed on special platforms or directly on the truck bed. For firing, the side panels of the truck were either folded down or completely removed. Such conversions often used the 2 cm Flak 38 anti-aircraft gun, which entered service with Wehrmacht AA units in the second half of 1940. With a reliable design and a high rate of fire (up to 480 rounds per minute), the 2 cm Flak 38 proved to be an effective weapon for close-range air defense. In addition to engaging aircraft, it was also capable of targeting lightly armored ground threats. Among the many factors that determine the course of battles, one is not immediately obvious but is crucial—food supply in combat conditions. A quality hot meal for a soldier is of great importance and sometimes influences the combat effectiveness of units more than modern weapons or equipment. Taking this into account, the Wehrmacht paid significant attention to soldier nutrition during wartime. In combat conditions or during marches, field kitchens on wheels of various types were used: large kitchens for 125 to 225 personnel, and smaller kitchens for 60 to 125 soldiers. These kitchens were either transported on trailers pulled by vehicles or horse-drawn wagons. They were also frequently set up in the beds of different trucks. These kitchens, humorously referred to by soldiers as the ‘Gulaschkanone,’ allowed for the preparation of various dishes. A large kettle, which had an insulating layer (usually made of glycerin), was used for the main dishes, and later versions of the kitchens included a separate kettle for frying. Meals were distributed either directly into soldiers’ mess kits or into large thermoses for delivery to units located some distance away from the kitchen. The main part of the daily ration was usually served at lunch, which could include, for example, a meat soup, a serving of potatoes with a generous portion of meat, and vegetables. The three-axle off-road passenger car G4 (W31) was designed by Daimler-Benz in 1934. This car had 8-cylinder engine of 100 (later 110) hp and 6 passenger seats. The car was intended for the German army but it appeared very expansive and too complicated for the mass production. There were produced only 72 G4 cars up to the 1939. Some of them were used as staff cars (Kfz.21) by high commanders of Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe. For many servicemen forced to live between life and death, turning to higher powers becomes essential. When soldiers and officers need moral support, representatives of spiritual service—military chaplains—are always nearby. During World War II, military clergy served in the armies of many warring countries, including the British armed forces. The British Army Chaplains Department, established in 1796, was renamed the Royal Army Chaplains’ Department (RAChD) in February 1919. During World War II, British military chaplains performed their duties selflessly across all theaters of war. To conduct services in field conditions, the clergy used specially equipped mobile field chapels. One such chapel was based on an American-made G7117 truck. The closed cargo area contained a small field altar with necessary service equipment, and could accommodate a harmonium. These specially equipped trucks of various types served in all combat areas.
