In 1950, the Boeing company began to study a four-engine aircraft with both civilian and military applications. On 14 May 1954, the Boeing factory in Renton produced a 367-80 which made its first flight on 15 July. This prototype will be used for the joint development of the KC-135 in-flight refuelling aircraft and the well-known Boeing 707 civil aircraft. On 15 October, Pan American ordered its first six jets, Boeing 707-121s. Subsequently, the Boeing 707 was developed in parallel with the different military C 135 and 137 versions, to give the 200 series, then the 300 series, which are very different. Built in nearly 1000 units, the Boeing 707 embodies the beginnings of contemporary air transport. Solid and reliable, this aircraft was very popular with both its crews and passengers. They were normally designed to accommodate 134 passengers in two classes. Air France‘s Boeing 707s have been named after castles. The „Château de Vincennes“ was the second of the 29 ordered by the French national airline. The Boeing 747 is a wide-body, long-range, passenger aircraft manufactured by the Boeing Company commonly known as the Jumbo Jet. The first Boeing 747 was flown on February 9, 1969, and production ended on December 6, 2022. The last machine in the 747-8F cargo version with the registration number N863GT was ceremonially handed over to Atlas Air on January 31, 2023. A total of 1,574 were produced in multiple versions. Alongside the Pinta and the Santa Maria, the Nina was part of the fleet which Christopher Columbus thought would take him to India. In fact, he wound up discovering the new world (America). The Nina, like the Pinta, was owned by the Pinzon brothers. She was a 60 ton caravel, and was captained on this expedition by Vincente Yanez Pinzon, the youngest of the three brothers. Flying Cloud was a clipper ship that set the world's sailing record for the fastest passage between New York and San Francisco, 89 days 8 hours. The ship held this record for over 130 years, from 1854 to 1989. Flying Cloud was the most famous of the clippers built by Donald McKay. Christoph Columbus, an Italian navigator living in Portugal, was fascinated by geography and wanted to open a new route to India by sailing westward. After the kings of Portugal, England and France had all refused to back his plan, Colombus turned to the Spanish monarchs, who appointed him admiral of an expedition comprising three caravels the NIÑA, the PINTA and the SANTA MARIA. After a voyage lasting more than month, Colombus discovered the Bahamas on October 12, 1492.

Developed from the L-749, the L-1049 Super Constellation first appeared in 1950. The transformation undergone by the L-749 was the longest extension ever made to a propeller airliner. This aircraft was derived from the Bf-109 G production series around the autumn of 1944, which it closely resembled. Only a few details regarding the engine, armament and cabin pressure differentiated it from previous versions. The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was the Luftwaffe‘s first real fighter-bomber. Thanks to its versatility owing to a modular construction, it gave birth to a large number of derivative models that enabled it to replace the Junkers Ju 87 (Stuka) as a support plane for troops on the ground, and the Messerschmitt Bf 110 as a fighter to combat the bombers. The Curtiss P-40 E is the successor to the Hawk 81 A, better known as the Tomahawk. It first took flight on 22nd May 1941 under the designation of Hawk 87 A. An order for 540 was made by Great Britain, who called it the Kittyhawk 1A, and other Commonwealth countries. A second order was made for 1500 planes for the US Army Air Force that used it under the name of Curtiss P-40 E who then sold them back to Great Britain in virtue of the land-lease agreement.

The 747 was launched on the 13 April 1966 by the Boeing Aircraft Company. Leader of a new generation of aircrafts‘ the Boeing 747 outclasses the older 707 with its passenger capacity and its somewhat colossal dimensions. Being the inaugural force of a new and so promising era, the Boeing 747 can already be considered as a reference aircraft in the development of air transport. ln 1969 the 747- 100 first flew, carrying 366 passengers 8 560 km and remains the worlds‘ largest commercial aircraft.
