There were four batches of "Special Type" destroyers, Type I, IA, II, and III. The Ayanami was the first Type II ship and was completed in 1930. The shapes of the funnels, bridge, turrets, etc. differed from those on the earlier Type I Fubuki-class ships and these differences are accurately reproduced. Small parts such as AA guns and boats are also highly detailed. During WWII, she took part in the invasion of Malaya, the Battle of Midway, and Battle of Eastern Solomons before finally being sunk by US forces in the 2nd Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. This model depicts the ship as she appeared before the war began.

This is an assembly kit of the Hibiki, which was commissioned in 1933 and survived the war after taking part in numerous battles such as the invasions of Malaya and Kiska and the Battle of the Philippine Sea. The narrow fore funnel and other features unique to the Type III "Special Type" destroyers are accurately reproduced, as are the many triple 25mm AA guns that were added from 1944. This model would make for a great comparison with her fellow Type III sister ship Akatsuki or earlier Fubuki-class destroyers such as the Fubuki or Ayanami. Length: 157mm. In May 1943, the Japanese Navy's next-generation destroyer Shimakaze was commissioned at Maizuru Naval Arsenal. Her high temperature, high pressure kampon boilers generated 75,000hp and propelled the 3,000-ton Shimakaze at what was a then record speed for a Japanese destroyer of 40.9 knots; she was also an imposing offensive presence, sporting three twin 12.7cm gun turrets and three quintuple torpedo tube mounts. It wasn't long before she saw action, in July 1943 taking part in the evacuation of Japanese troops from Kiska in the Aleutian Islands, and after that she was called further south, where she would eventually meet her end in November 1944, sunk during a transport mission to relieve the embattled garrison of the island of Leyte. The Shimakaze was to end up the only ship of her class, partially due to carriers and their aircraft reducing destroyer effectiveness, and compounded by the lack of production capacity as Japan felt the squeeze of a worsening war situation. Despite her fleeting service life, however, she was still able to prove that she was a worthwhile design, as the fastest and most powerful of the Japanese destroyers. Decals are included in the kit to recreate linoleum deck sections and more. The model finishes at the waterline, allowing recreation of the Shimakaze at sea. The slimline hull is in left and right halves, with excellent attention to exterior detail. Superstructures are also recreated with aplomb, such as the bridge, complex mast and funnels. Slide-molded 12.7cm twin guns offer superb detail, and rotate thanks to the use of poly caps. Poly caps are installed in quintuple torpedo tube mounts, too, for realistic turning. The included set of decals includes depictions of Japanese characters and deck linoleum sections.

This set includes tugboats and small craft that operated in military harbors. These include transports which moved material and personnel, motor launches for liaison, rescue craft to assist downed airmen, tugboats, training and rescue cutters, and smaller transport craft. The Iowa Class Battleships were the largest and final great battleships of the US Navy. They included the BB-61 Iowa, the BB-62 New Jersey, and the third ship, the famous BB-63 Battleship Missouri. These ships, which boasted an amazing 212,000hp allowing a 33 knot top speed, were armed with massive 40.6cm main guns. The Iowa Class ships stretched 270.4m but were relatively thin, with only 33m max width, enabling them to pass through the Panama Canal. Being commissioned in June 1944, the USS Missouri took part in many operations during the Pacific War including bombardments on Japanese mainland and capital. On September 2, 1945, the treaty for the unconditional surrender of Japanese forces was signed onboard the deck of the historic USS Missouri. With the outbreak of the Korean War in June 1950 the USS Missouri was deployed again with the other Iowa Class Battleships for fire support. The USS Missouri was relegated to reserve duty in 1955, but became subject to complete renovation and modernization in 1986 when she was fitted with the latest in electronic weapon systems, cruise missiles and other improvements. In 1991, the USS Missouri was deployed to fight in the Gulf War. Finally, in 1993, after about a half-century of service, this historic Battleship was at last retired. During WWII, the USS Missouri wore 2 different camouflage schemes. When completed in June 1944, this battleship was painted in what was called Measure 32/22D camouflage which consisted in splashes of three colors applied all along the ship. In 1945, this was change to Measure 22 camouflage which consisted of dark gray for almost all the hull and light gray for the remaining vertical surfaces. The kit includes a color sheet displaying the camouflage schemes, showing both sides of Measure 32/22D camouflage. You can enlarge it by 120% to use it as a template to paint your model. Serving from 1943 to 1991, the BB-62 New Jersey is the most decorated battleship in U.S. Naval history. Launched in 1942, the New Jersey was one of 4 Iowa class battleships built by the U.S. Navy. Like other Iowa class ships she boasted a 45,000 ton displacement, an amazing 212,000hp, was packed with three turrets of 50 caliber 40.6cm triple guns, and despite her large size, with hull stretching over 270m, was designed narrow enough to pass through the Panama Canal. Following serving in major battles in the Pacific during WWII, she was then deployed to both the Korean and Vietnam wars. In 1982, she was upgraded with modern technology and weapon's systems enabling her to launch Tomahawk cruise missiles and Harpoon anti-ship missiles. Following providing fire support during the Lebanon conflict she served in the Gulf War, and then was finally decommissioned for the last time in 1991.Features 1/700 scale Waterline Series model of the BB-62 New Jersey following 1982 reforms. The British Battleship Prince of Wales was the second ship of the King George V class. Soon after her completion in March 1941, she was involved in the historic hunt for the German battleship Bismarck. In October she was deployed to South-East Asia to fortify the important British post of Singapore. However, her short career of a mere 9 months came to a dramatic end when intercepted by Japanese bombers in what was to be known as the Battle of Malaya. Tamiya is proud to add the Prince of Wales as she stood during this historic naval battle to our high quality Water Line Series. Kit also features Japanese planes Type 96 "Nell" and Type 1 "Betty" attack bombers for a complete set to accurately recreate battle scene. On December 8, following the outbreak of the Pacific War, the Prince of Wales left Singapore after receiving intelligence that Japanese troops had begun to land in Malaya. The British Eastern Fleet under Admiral Philips, including the Prince of Wales, intended to meet the enemy at the Kuantan and attack a Japanese convoy. However, the intelligence was wrong and Kuantan was "as quiet as a rainy Sunday afternoon". On her way back to Singapore in the morning of December 10, the Prince of Wales was spotted by a Japanese scout plane. She was soon after attacked and badly damaged by Japanese Type 96 "Nell" and Type 1 "Betty" attack bombers. America's Last King of the Sea Commissioned in February 1943, the USS Iowa served briefly in the Atlantic before departing for the Pacific Theater in January 1944. She served mainly to support carrier based air strikes against Japanese-held islands, protecting said carriers and shelling enemy shore and naval positions. She took part in the Marianas campaign and the Battle of Leyte Gulf, although she missed a chance for a showdown with the Japanese battleship Yamato. After assisting the assault on the Philippines, Iowa took part in the Okinawa invasion as well as supporting air strikes on Kyushu. Together with sister ships USS Missouri and USS Wisconsin, Iowa bombarded industrial cities on the Japanese homeland towards the end of the war. The Bogue was the lead ship of her namesake class of 11 escort carriers which were produced from 1942 to 1943 to mainly serve as convoy escorts in the Atlantic. She was responsible for sinking many German U-boats as well as the Japanese submarine I-52 which was on its way to Germany.
