Tamiya 24231 1/24 Subaru Im...
$30.95
There is no better way to test the toughness of an automobile than by entering it in the World Rally Championship (WRC). Subaru understood this when they first entered the WRC back in 1990. In 1992, the Legacy was succeeded by the more compact Impreza, which was imbued with two years of tested technology. This sports sedan generated intense popularity among consumers looking for a street car with the guts of a WRC contender. In August 2000, a second generation of Impreza was born. One of the specially tuned versions of this car was the Impreza WRX STi (Subaru Tecnica International). Its 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine adopts a reinforced cylinder block, molybdenum coated steel pistons, high capacity turbo and intercooler. The power of the STi model was boosted to 280hp with 38kg-m maximum torque. This power was efficiently transmitted to the four wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission, also developed by the STi team. The suspension adopts rally-proven 4-wheel struts, ensuring a smooth ride over all road conditions. Blister style over-fenders on the powerful four-door body and an enlarged air intake on the hood give the Impreza WRX STi a truly impressive appearance.

Tamiya 24235 1/24 Austin Mi...
$36.95
Genius designer Sir Alec Issigonis was the driving force behind the quintessential British automobile, the Mini. In 1959, the British Motor Company released two versions of the Mini based on their Morris and Austin brands-the Morris Mini Minor and the Austin Seven. The most salient characteristic of the Mini was its roominess. Despite a 3m body length, the Mini could comfortably fit four large adults with room to spare. This economy of space was accomplished by using a compact two-box layout, which positioned the transmission and gearbox in the oil sump. Four-wheel independent suspension and small diameter 10" wheels ensured a low and balanced ride. The popularity of the Mini grew and soon the Mk.II and Mk.III versions were born. In 1961, John Cooper of British racing fame souped-up the engine and introduced it to the public as the Morris Mini Cooper. Later, the Mini Cooper S was also created for race and rally participation. The finest version of the "S" type, the Mini Cooper 1275S Mk.I was released in 1964. It featured a 1275cc engine and was entered in the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally, among many higher-powered opponents. What it lacked in power, it made up for in nimbleness, taking the overall victory in the "64, "65 and "67 races. Both the Morris and Austin versions of the Mini Cooper S were built, differing from each other only in grill design and emblem. And while a new version of Mini was announced in September 2000, the worldwide popularity of the original Mini remains as strong as ever.

That well-balanced machine was equipped with a powerful horizontally opposed 4 cylinder turbo engine, and secured that year's Manufacturers Title. In the following years, various improvements were made to the car in accordance with changes in the production model. The 2001 Impreza adopted a four-door sedan body and first showed itself at the season opener, the Monte Carlo Rally. The unique appearance of the car was highlighted by small compound headlights, spoiler attached to the extreme rear and blister-style fenders. The engine underwent extensive tuning in an effort to boost responsiveness, and major progress was made in regards to electronic control of the semi-automatic transmission and front, center, and rear differential gearing. This lively long nose, short deck sports car had a 250hp 2-liter DOHC straight-four engine, a six-speed manual transmission and 50:50 weight ratio, as well as four-wheel double wishbone suspension. The Type V model was released in July 2000 and ended with VGS, a variable gear ratio steering system which the steering gear ratio based upon wheel angle and car speed: at lower speeds smaller steering wheel input gave quicker response, while varied at higher velocities the response was less urgent for smaller input and quicker as input increased, giving the S2000 something of the air of a racecar. The Type V also had a dedicated suspension setup.

$32.95
Among the models in the 1993 debut type 993 Porsche 911 line-up was a road car developed in line with GT2 regulations, aptly named the 911 GT2. Its 3.6-liter horizontally opposed 6-cylinder engine was teamed up with a pair of KKK turbochargers for a most impressive output of 450hp, which the 911 GT2 parlayed via a 6-speed transmission into some astounding numbers: a 0-100km/h time of 3.9 seconds, and a top speed exceeding 300km/h. Aluminum front hood and door panels contributed to a seriously light car, while the front spoiler was designed to contribute to brake cooling; screw-fixed overfenders, a rear wing with air ducts and a spartan roll cage-equipped interior meant the car really looked the part, too. Of the approximately 170 911 GT2s produced 57 were of the road-legal "club sport" variety - as a rare model with high performance, the 911 GT2 garnered massive attention from Porsche fans the world over.

In the tradition of the City and the Logo, the Jazz, Honda's latest compact car has been created to provide convenience in every-day life. With a body not even reaching 4-meters, it features a surprisingly large passenger compartment. The Jazz's interior space has been maximized by setting the fuel tank under the front seats, making possible the lowering of the baggage compartment and providing more leg-room in the rear seats. The Jazz's seating arrangement, referred to as "Ultra-seat" can be easily modified to allow for four different configurations. The Jazz's 4-cylinder 1.3liter engine with low fuel consumption and double ignition points is highly fuel-efficient. Combustion efficiency has been maximized thanks to its high rotating speed, acceleration power and computer assistance. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) enables the Jazz to adapt to road type and procure smooth and comfortable acceleration.
