The mutual cruelty of the two warring parties, who had previously been citizens of the same state, reached unimaginable levels. As a result, the Civil War became the bloodiest military conflict for the United States in the country’s history, with 650,000 Americans killed, according to historians. Helicopters Ground Personnel - Vietnam War The Vietnam War is often referred to as the “Helicopter War,” a name that emerged as a result of their active participation in the armed conflict in Indochina. U.S. Army helicopters performed a wide range of different missions, including troop transportation, reconnaissance, fire support, cargo transportation, and search and rescue of downed aircraft crews. A large number of ground personnel, including technicians, mechanics, and weapons specialists, were involved in the maintenance and repair of the helicopters. They were engaged in scheduled maintenance of helicopters, engines and weapons equipment. The technicians also eliminated malfunctions that occurred during combat missions, such as damage to the helicopter fuselage caused by ground fire. WWII German Military Medical Personnel In Wehrmacht, the direct medical care for wounded soldiers on the battlefield was provided by medics who were part of platoons, companies, and battalions. They could be distinguished from ordinary infantrymen by their special medical pouches, additional water flasks, patches, and armbands. They were also able to evacuate the wounded to first aid stations or collection points. Infantry companies also included non-commissioned officers of the medical service, and at the battalion level, a military doctor (Assistenz or Oberarzt) was responsible for centralized medical care. However, it was not possible to carry out serious medical operations in the battalion; this was the responsibility of the divisional medical service, which could also include sanitary convoys that were engaged in the centralized transportation of the wounded.
