The Crown, which has always made history as a luxury car in Japan, underwent a full model change in 1987, becoming the eighth generation S130 series Crown. In August 1989, the 4000 Royal Saloon G V8 was added, along with a minor change. The style equipped with a large side protection molding that completely covered the lower half of the body exuded the dignity of a top-of-the-line model. It was also recognized in America as a base car for motorsports and participated in the IMSA series from 1979. In its debut race, the 24 Hours of Daytona, it achieved an impressive victory in the GTU class and an overall 5th place finish, attracting the attention of American motorsports fans. The second generation Savanna RX-7, the FC3S, was introduced in October 1985 as a fully redesigned version of the previous generation SA22C.
