This model kit in 1/20 scale recreates the Toyota Celica LB Turbo Gr. 5 (originally sold as Item 20009 in 1978; not motorized this time) with new Cartograf decals, new slick tires, and instruction manual. The Toyota Celica LB Turbo was a Group 5 car developed for the 1977 DRM (German Racing Championship). Based upon the road car Celica Liftback, the car featured aerodynamic components such as bulging over fenders and rear wing and employed numerous FRP body panels. An extensively modified body and 2,090cc, 560hp inline-4 DOHC turbo engine were utilized for its racing endeavors. In 1977, Lotus introduced a ground effect car, the Type 78 which had a slim monocoque chassis and wide side pontoons with undersurfaces like inverted aircraft wings. Round 6 Belgium GP in the 1978 season saw the introduction of the further evolved Type 79. The fuel tanks were placed behind the cockpit and the rear suspension featured effective inboard dampers. Mario Andretti was paired with Ronnie Peterson that year, and the former drove the car to an impressive pole-to-finish debut win. More success followed, with Andretti taking 5 wins to claim the drivers' championship and Peterson adding another win to help the team claim the constructors' title. A Modern Great GT racing has captured the imagination of race fans across the world, with cutting edge cars from famed marques such as Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Audi and more. That illustrious list also includes Mercedes and the German auto giant's Mercedes-AMG GT3, developed in line with the FIA's GT3 class specs. The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL is a piece of automobile legend, the famed German maker's super sports car with gull wings that once were seen, were never forgotten. It was a 1954 release, and drew largely upon a successful racing prototype from 2 years earlier, inheriting the inner mechanics of a race car and THAT sublime silhouette. Honda's Chain-Driven RoadsterWhile Honda first gained worldwide acclaim for their motorcycles, they were also quick to branch out into manufacturing vehicles of the 4-wheeled kind. The Tokyo Motor Show in 1962 was the stage that they chose to debut their S500 roadster, which was quickly followed up in 1964 by a 606cc engine successor - the S600. That 606cc, 57hp unit was a 4-cylinder DOHC powerplant which bore close comparison even with racing engines of its day, and Honda took the creative approach of transmitting its power to the rear wheels of the car via chain drive units. The Porsche 959 was first unveiled at the 1983 Frankfurt auto show as a study for a full time 4 wheel drive Group B super sports car. Back then, the automobile was still far from being completed and its potential a mystery. The 959's awesome capabilities matured through thorough research and competition experience with the automobile. It demonstrated its outstanding abilities during the grueling Paris-Dakar Rally, and the Le Mans 24 hour endurance race. Porsche has taken their race car technology and put it into the 959, to produce a car that provides every comfort, with smooth running and the low interior noise expected of a road car, while offering high safety reserves. Thus the 959, despite its massive 450hp engine power, can be drive easily at its lower RPM ranges. The 2848cc engine is a descendent of the famous 956 and 962 Porsche Group C racer. In 1992, the Legacy was succeeded by the more compact Impreza, which was imbued with two years of tested technology. This sports sedan generated intense popularity among consumers looking for a street car with the guts of a WRC contender. In August 2000, a second generation of Impreza was born. One of the specially tuned versions of this car was the Impreza WRX STi (Subaru Tecnica International). From 1969 through to the early 1970s, the Skyline GT-R achieved an unbelievable streak of fifty proud in a row in the Japanese Touring Car Race. Sixteen years later, its successful name was passed on to the R32 type, which was developed as a base machine for Group-A races. To take full advantage of its powerful 2.6l, 6-cylinder twin turbo engine, it was equipped with a 4WD system, which provided unrivaled race performance. 1995 saw the larger body and refined mechanics of the R33. In 1999, the technology cultivated over a long racing history was unsparingly poured into the new R34 type, developed with "ultimate driving pleasure" in mind. The R34 features a smaller body and a sturdier structure, with ample consideration to its aerodynamics. The adjustable two-level rear spoiler as well as a front and rear diffuser (V-spec), regulate the flow of air under the chassis, heightening control. The R34's impressive speed is accounted for by a modification in valve timing and turbo-charging of the GETRAG 6-speed transmission controlled engine. Further refinements have been adopted such as an electronically controlled front/rear power distribution 4WD system and a multi-link suspension. Undergoing extensive testing in Japan, its driving performance was further improved in Germany, on the Nurburgring.
