The Tiger II, developed in 1943, unofficially also known as the King Tiger, was mass-produced at Henschel from 1944. The King Tiger combined the demands for armor protection and firepower in an outstanding way. The frontal armor of up to 150 mm thickness could not be penetrated by projectiles from the on-board cannons of enemy main battle tanks. The sides of the hull were armored up to 80 mm thick. Despite several massive Allied bombing raids on the Henschel factory in Kassel, a total of 492 Tiger IIs were delivered to the troops, including the prototypes and 50 vehicles equipped with a Porsche tower. But not all of them reached the front units. A large number of the Tiger IIs were lost due to drive problems resulting from the high overall weight or simply from a lack of fuel. The conquest of Crete during operation Merkur, in May 1941, was one of the biggest successes of German paratroopers. But the casualties were so high that their use was often limited to an elite infantry role more than as airborne troops. In March 1944, General Kurt Student's 1st Division Fallschirmjäger, holding their ground among the ruins of the Monastery of Montecassino, strenuously resisted the advancing Allies. The M36 tank destroyer, formally 90 mm Gun Motor Carriage, M36, was an American tank destroyer used during World War II. The M36 combined the hull of the M10 tank destroyer, which used the M4 Sherman's reliable chassis and drivetrain, combined with sloped armour. Conceived in 1943, the M36 first served in combat in Europe in October 1944, where it partially replaced the M10 tank destroyer. However, when coming up against the heaviest tanks of the Wermarcht at the end of that year, the need for 90 mm gunned tank destroyers became urgent and during October-December 1944, 187 conversions of standard Medium Tank M4A3 hulls were produced by Grand Blanc Arsenal. These vehicles, designated M36B1, were rushed to the European Theater of Operations and used in combat alongside standard M36s.Specifications Item Length - Without Packaging (cm): 21.3 Item Height - Without Packaging (cm): 9.37 Item Width - Without Packaging (cm): 8.7 Item Scale: 1:35 Contents (what's in the box) sets: Sprues & decals Finish: Plastic Number of Scheme options: 2 Skill Level: 3 Flying Hours: 3
