After the Sino-Japanese War of 1937, the Japanese Navy came under attack from the Chinese Air Force, albeit on a small scale. As a result, the Japanese Navy felt the need for a high-speed fighter for air defense of its bases, and presented Mitsubishi with a proposal to develop the Type 14 Experimental Local Fighter.
When Mitsubishi received this plan, they considered equipping the plane with a powerful engine, and although the engine they decided on in accordance with the requirements was large in diameter, they took air resistance into consideration and placed the engine at the rear using an extended shaft, and the nose was tapered ,resulting in a spindle-shaped fuselage design that was not seen in previous Japanese aircraft.
In 1942, the first prototype was inspected and it was pointed out that it had a fast landing speed and poor visibility. However, after modifications such as redesigning the windshield, production of the aircraft began in September 1943 as the Raiden Type 11 (J2M2).
The Raiden Type 21 (J2M3) was a more heavily armed model equipped with four 20mm machine guns instead of a 7.7mm machine gun, and was the most produced of all the Raiden models.
Subsequently, the Type 32 (J2M4) was equipped with an exhaust turbine supercharger, the Type 33 (J2M5) had a larger windshield and the engine was replaced with a Hwasong 26 Type, and the Type 31 (J2M6) had a larger windshield but retained the same Hwasong 23A engine as the Raiden 21, as the Hwasong 26 Type was not available. A total of about 500 aircraft were produced, and they were used to intercept enemy bombers entering the Japanese mainland.

The Shiden Kai was a Japanese Navy fighter plane that was active during World War II and the Pacific War.
The Shiden made before the Shiden Kai had the wings attached to the center of the fuselage (called a mid-wing configuration), which caused poor visibility and trouble with the legs attached to the wings being too long. This prompted the fuselage to be redesigned and the wings placed under the fuselage (called a low-wing configuration). The aircraft with this improved design is called the Shiden Kai.
The Shiden Kai was a much more powerful aircraft than the Shiden. The Shiden Kai was deployed primarily to the 343rd Air Group at Matsuyama Air Base in Shikoku, and was used to defend the airspace of western Japan, mainly in the naval ports of Hiroshima and Kure.

The Type 97 carrier-based attack aircraft, incorporating many innovative features, wasthe first low-wing monoplane carrier-based attack aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Navy with an all-metal monocoque structure. It adopted revolutionary hydraulic retractable main landing gear, and the fuselage width was narrowest near the cockpit for a three-seater aircraft.
The adoption of upward-folding main wings shortened the overall width, allowing for a smaller storage space inside the aircraft carrier.
The propeller was an all-metal two-stage variable-pitch three-blade propeller, which efficiently exerted engine power according to each situation, whether it was takeoff, climbing, cruising, or at high speed, and performance was greatly improved.

F6F-3/5 Hellcat
U.S. Navy Carrier Based Fighter
The Grumman F6 Hellcat is an American single-engine fighter aircraft of World War II with a semi-hulled airframe in a low-wing configuration. The F6 Hellcat was developed as a development of the successful F4F design. In designing it, the experience of 18 months of F4F operation in the Pacific and numerous feedback from pilots fighting in Wildcat aircraft were used. Structurally, the F6 Hellcat resembled its predecessor with one major change. A low-wing system was used, which allowed the landing gear to be retracted into the lower center wing instead of into the fuselage. This increased track width and stability in motion on the ground. In addition, cockpit truss was used and ammunition was increased.

Hasegawa 00341 1/72 F-106A ...
$15.99
The F-106A was an all-weather interceptor fighter developed as an advanced version of the previous F-102A Delta Dagger, and was originally called the F-102B. Equipped with the J75 engine, which had 50% more thrust than the J57engine installed in the F-102 , the F-106 grew into a Mach 2 interceptor.
The biggest feature of the F-106 was its fire control system, which was equipped with the Hughes MA-1 digital computer, which was integratedwith the semi-automated intercept system of the US mainland at the time, SAGE, giving it an advanced intercept capability that was close to fully automated. Of course, the radar and navigation equipment were also state-of-the-art, and it had extremely advanced all-weather capabilities.
The main armament was missiles, and since there was a missile bay in the center of the fuselage, the missiles could be mounted without being exposed, sothere was no restriction on speed. The missiles carried were one unguided AIM-2 Genie missile with a 1.5KT nuclear warhead and four AIM-4F/G Super Falcons(a mix of infrared homing and semi-active homing), but it seems that the Genie was rarely carried.

The McDonnell Douglas F-15D/DJ Eagle is a two-seater version of the F-15C/J Eagle, an air superiority fighter used by the U.S. Air Force and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force as a successor to the F-4 .
Although it is a two-seater, it is only slightly heavier, and its flight performance and weapon systems are almost the same as those of the single-seater. Therefore, it can be used not only for its original role of control transfer training, but also as a two-seater fighter with dual controls for air superiority combat and ground attacks. The F-15E Strike Eagle is a further development of the fighter-bombing capabilities of the F-15 .

Hasegawa's fine AV-8B Harrier with markings two United States Marines aircraft. One from VMA-223 "Bulldogs". The other from VMA-542 "Flying Tigers".
The Harrier, which appeared in the early 1960s as the world's first practical V/STOL attack aircraft , caught the attention of the United States Marine Corps as a landing support fighter and was adopted under the designation AV-8A.
However, operational issues due to insufficient payload and range persisted, andthere was a long-standing need for an improved version of the AV-8A.The AV-8B, which appeared under these circumstances, was a significant upgrade to meet the tactical requirements of the US Marine Corps.
The wings were enlarged, the cross section became a supercritical airfoil, andLERX (leading edge extension) was added to the root of the wings to improve aerodynamics. Moreover, the weight was kept to a minimum by extensive use of composite materials, and the auxiliary wheels under the wings were moved from the wing tips to the center of the wings, and two underwing hard points were added.Meanwhile, the avionics were also significantly modernized, and the nose was equipped with ARBS (Angular Velocity Bombing System) which was put into practical use in the A-4M Skyhawk, which dramatically improved the accuracy of weapon dropping. Furthermore, in addition to adopting a multi-purpose display and HOTAS system (which allows the pilot to operate various systems without taking their hands off the joystick or throttle ), the canopy was enlarged, providing a wider field of view and improving maneuverability.

Its distinctive cigar-shaped, wide fuselage had the bomb bay located inside the fuselage, which significantly reduced aerodynamic resistance, and its original and outstanding design resulted in an aircraft with performance that exceeded military requirements.
However, the integral tank later became a weak point of the G4M,as even a small hit to the wing would cause it to catch fire, resulting in frequent damage in aerial combat. The total production of each type was approximately 2,400.
This is a plastic model kit, which comes unassembled and unpainted. So glue, model paints and other basic modelling tools are additionally required.

The current Blue Impulse began on October 19, 1958, when three F-86Fs performed aerobatics at an air show held at Hamamatsu Kita Air Base .
The Japan Air Self-Defense Force established the Air Mobility Research Team at the 1st Air Wing at Hamamatsu Air Base on April 16, 1960, and formed an aerobatic flying team using F-86F Sabers under the name of Tenryu. This F-86F team later changed its name to Blue Impulse, using the call sign Impulse Blue, and became known around the world by drawing the Olympic rings and EXPO '70 in the air.
After this, the Blue Impulse team performed numerous aerobatics all over Japan, but in the 1982 season, they replaced their aging F-86F with the domestically produced jet trainer T-2.The speedy aerobatics performed by the T-2 captivated many fans. Having previously used the F-86F and T-2, the Blue Impulse team switched to the latest domestically produced jet trainer T-4 in the 1996 season, a model they continue to use to this day.
The T-4, capable of aerial maneuvers on a par with the F-15, delivers a more advanced and exciting performance for the spectators.
Hasegawa's sharp little T-4 kit with decals for marking the planes of the JASDF aerobatic team "Blue Impulse" in their 2002 team configuration. The blue areas of the scheme are provided as decals, and the plane is shot in white plastic, so you can make this look basically like the plane even without painting (though we definitely recommend painting it!).
