The parts structure is simple and easy to assemble for accurate reproduction; in addition to various equipment such as anti-aircraft guns, catapults and electric probes, a newly designed carrier-based aircraft has been added. Some of the parts are slide-molded for density and precision; in addition to armaments such as destroyer main guns and machine guns, carrier-based aircraft and various equipment have been updated. The outfitting parts (Type 96 25mm triple machine gun, direction finder antenna, No. 22 electric probe, No. 13 electric probe, Type 94 shooting device, 90cm signal searchlight, 110cm signal searchlight, Kure type 2 type 5 injection machine (aircraft catapult), 11m internal fire launch, 11m fire boat, 9m cutter, and Type 0 water reconnaissance aircraft) have been renewed with new molds.

The parts structure is simple and easy to assemble for accurate reproduction; various equipment such as the 10cm high-angle gun and carrier-based boats, which are characteristic of Akizuki-class destroyers, have been newly designed.
Some of the parts are slide-molded for density and precision; in addition to armaments such as destroyer main guns and machine guns, carrier-based aircraft and various equipment have been updated. The I-401 and I-402 belonged to a class of Japanese submarines that was the largest in the world until the development of nuclear ballistic missile subs during the 1960s. They still stand as the largest non-nuke subs ever built. They were designed as submarine aircraft carriers, capable of carrying 3 Aichi M6A Seiran seaplanes in a main deck hangar, launching aircraft from a catapult on the front main deck. They carried offensive and defensive weapons in the form of torpedoes, anti-aircraft guns, and a large deck cannon. Of the 18 originally planned, only 3 were built: the I-400, the I-401, and the I-402.
Aoshima's waterline-only I-401/I-402 kit is beautifully molded in gray plastic and comes with a full complement of aircraft (some unused). Includes decals for both the I-401 and I-402. A great addition to any 1/700 collection of military vessels.
