When the muscle car craze took off in the late 1960s, there seemed to be a market that could be served by cheaper models. Plymouth responded with the 1968 Road Runner, which had all the strengths of a muscle car but none of the fancy extras found on relatively expensive performance cars. The lack of frills helped keep the Road Runner's price down, which was exactly what many buyers were looking for. The redesigned 1970 Road Runner was part of Plymouth's new "Rapid Transit System" family of high performance vehicles. Whimsical new features included optional "Dust Trail" side stripes and a wild collection of attention-grabbing "High Impact" paint colors. The optional 440+6 engine worked with a trio of 2-barrel carburetors and produced 390 hp and a whopping 490 lb-ft of torque. So equipped, a Road Runner could complete the quarter mile in the mid 13-second range at over 102 mph.

"We Build Excitement" was one of Pontiac's most memorable ad campaigns, and judging by the look of the 1987 Firebird® GTA, it wasn't just a slogan. The GTA, new for '87, was the ultimate Firebird. The Pontiac stylists gave it a sleek, cleanly drawn body with a smooth front apron, a wrap-around rear spoiler and aero skirts on the underside of the car. Other features were the single-color exterior paintwork and the subtle GTA lettering on the front fenders.
Under the hood was a 5.7-liter V8 engine. It made 210 hp and had 315 lb-ft of torque. Other features included Pontiac's legendary WS6 handling package and 16-inch diamond-spoke alloy wheels. Revell designers created this now classic 1/16 scale kit of the '87 Firebird GTA when the car was new, but this is the first time the kit has been made available again in decades.
