The Type V model was released in July 2000 and ended with VGS, a variable gear ratio steering system which the steering gear ratio based upon wheel angle and car speed: at lower speeds smaller steering wheel input gave quicker response, while varied at higher velocities the response was less urgent for smaller input and quicker as input increased, giving the S2000 something of the air of a racecar.
